They’ll just say they had nothing to do with the decision or marketing.

I think what’s really going on here is a failure of the education system in this country. No one knows what words mean anymore. :D

Yes, but when you combine the price hikes and elimination of many of the former standard features (like the 6-way adjustable driver seat & the full size spare) that have occurred just this year, the profit motivation seems to be paramount now. Also, they have eliminated the access cab in favor of the xtra cab, which no doubt costs much less to manufacture by removing 2 doors. I think it's mostly about bumping the profit margin.

I’m sure Toyota is paying their Mexican factory workers much less than those in the US and we aren’t seeing any of those savings either. Greed.

Like when I got my 2022 after my 2017 was totaled. One bed cubby instead of 2. Eliminated the little change cubby on the drivers side dash. Removed the straps for folding down the seats. The plastic feels one gauge lighter on the 2022. They added the $5k dealer markup into the new MSRP and want everyone to get excited about buying at MSRP again. sigh

It’s the automotive version of shrinkflation. You get less but you pay more.

When I heard someone say that the '23 Toyota Tacoma outsold all other US mid-size trucks combined, I think the marketing folks said, "OK we can now squeeze our customer base like never before". And so they are, simple as that.

The only way to fit a bigger fit a bigger tire in there is to cut the exhaust/resonator.

    I don't believe that's correct, I'll take more pics in a bit.

If by bigger you mean greater OD, well maybe. But this thread is all about fitting a wider profile, 245/70/17 "full size" tire that is essentially the same OD as the crappy temp you see pictured below. So I don't agree. (Notice how the spare is no longer centered left to right)IMG_0722.jpg

Is there a load rating on these mini spares? I’d be annoyed if they’re just small. I would be pretty mad if I had to get a tow while towing/hauling because it can’t handle much more load than the truck itself.

Somebody needs to drop one and take detailed pictures of the sidewall, which will answer all of these questions.

    Mine's a Goodyear Max speed 80km/h--50MPH
(I'm waiting for the dealer to drop this for obvious reasons)

That looks to be more or less what a normal tire should be good for.

Overland bros can sell their spares to people looking to get better MPG’s. :D

50 MPH max is fun if you get a flat on a road trip.

Every single Nissan Altima driver going 100 miles an hour on a bald donut spare mounted in the front is wondering what nonsense you’re on about.

My neighbor has run his donut so long the threads are showing. Proof that Toyota has equipped fully capable spare tires.
