I start my first class of BJJ on Thursday (trial period class). I'm nervous. Feels like the first day of school coming up all over again. :pout::puke:

But I'm looking forward to finally getting into it, getting back in shape, learning some BJJ, and meeting some new people. I hope it works out for the best. :rasta:

Wow, that's impressive. 9 years as a BB I see. How old are you and when did you start? How long did it take to reach each belt level, and how many days a week were you typically training?

I'm sure you've been through a ton of gi's. Which are your favorites? I plan on getting a cheap Gi for my first year (probably Elite Sport) to lose some weight with, then when I get down to a more ideal form, putting out some money for a nice one.

I stepped on the mats at 29 years old, I’m now 43.

I won’t say how long but I was on an accelerated curve. Not because I’m gifted, I crammed 10years of Jiu-Jitsu into a tighter journey.

SYR is the only gi I wear now. Tried many over the years Hyperfly, Vulcan, to name a few. But once I arrived at SYR it became the only acceptable option (kinda like a Toyota :)

Good for you man. The people you will meet training in and competing in combat sports are the best.

Got two stripes on my blue belt two weeks ago. Was super surprised since I started training again in January of 2023 after about 5 years off and felt like I was constantly getting my ass beat.

Watching Roger Gracie instructionals all year definitely paying off lol

    Too much to list
Anyone take their kids and feel unsatisfied? Looking for some other experiences at other gyms.

My main gripe is the mat space is just too small, which limits actual rolling and competition prep. The instructors/professors are great, the kids just don't have the space to move. There are 30-40 kids in class with probably a 15x15 mat space, that estimate might be a bit large too, if I'm being completely honest.

yea, kali is my first love, i've tried a 2 other disciplines but always goes back to kali. tried jet kune do with dan inosanto lineage and tried silat (all have kali in them) but i always go back to kali. just love teh force multiplier of a "pen/pencil" which i can bring on the airplane and probably too old to learn new things.
