Not sure what TE1 is for but the com line between the PCM and scan tool is the SDL line that goes from E5 Pin 7 (White) at the PCM to Pin 2 (White) at DLC 3

Have we checked 5v ref? I didn't see where you did?

I listed the checks in post #24

Then asked this, to emphasize that pin.

OP reasoned this. I can only take his word for the values.

Your talking about Connector E7 Pin 1 (Green/Yellow)?

    I’m operating off Chiltons.
They call it the 16 pin connector.
But yes, that is the one we have checked.

If you didnt read back through the thread this is the issue at hand. No cel with key on or any other position. Truck will start on the fuel pumps prime but the fuel pump is not getting its signal to stay on (im assuming that is how it operates)

It won’t unless it sees a crank signal.
Or at least, that’s how most Toyotas work.
But Dm knows more than me.

Ok TE1 is the test terminal, on older Toyotas you grounded it to flash the codes out on the CEL and put the PCM into test mode. It's use on a 97 is not clear in service info, I can't find any info on it.

Have you checked that wire for a short to ground?

    See why I tagged you?
I looked for info on TE1 before I tagged you.

    I was lost, I figured maybe you’d know. :D

OP, disconnect the 16 pin a E7 connector.
Use a test light. Hook the light to battery power, and prob pin 1 on E7 (16 pin)
If the light comes on, you have a short.

Or you can use a voltage meter too.
But I like to use a light.

I mean I know what it's for on the older Toyota vehicles, it's purpose here isn't clear to me though.
Is the an auto or manual truck?

This may sound stupid but what would be the best way to test it for short to ground? I have a decent multimeter its a blue power CBPDM300 from cornwell and i have a power probe also

I'd probably do a resistance check on that one, it's just a sense circuit so it wouldn't take much to pull it to ground.

You can explain that one.
I could, but I tend to make things “more complicated” in my explanations.
