LS6 Swap 2nd Gen Build + New Tundra

Bussmann Fuse box arrived. Started putting it together for two ground trigger relays and 1 positive trigger.

nice and neat with deutsch connectors.




this is what it replaced. I used to have An Amazon fuse box and it shorted, so had to make relay fuse spaghetti.



installed in the bedside. I need to put the filler plugs in still, and put some abs sheets over the holes in the bed next to the fuse box. But it’s a super clean install and works great.



Trans temp got to 209 while climbing the same steep hill that got me to 220-230 last time and made me pull over.

just ordered the Derale race series cooler. When it gets here I’m gonna chop the bedside up too. No more trans overheating. I’m tired of it.


Ordered this guy too. The current trans cooler keeps the trans right at like 160-165 without the fans on until I start to beat on it. I want to actually make sure the trans is at a good operating temp in the winter so this will be perfect. I think I’ll have the most capable trans cooling setup now.

ah the good ol bussman boxes, those are always fun....lol. why so many 25 and 30 amp fuses though?

because I’m not using it how they recommend. It has two busses, I’m using one of them as a negative bus. The 25amp side is the negative bus. The fuses are just there to bridge between the bus and the ground connectors for the relays and fans. I’ve since changed them for 30 amps. So basically I have two fuses on each circuit

 

oh okay i see now your just using the fuses as bridges to 30 and 86 or something. makes sense, i normally dont use the bussed ones for this reason, but they do simplify wiring for sure.

Would this work on my 2007 if I bought the newer window switch bezels? Is the wiring the same? @Dm93

I’m curious to know, since you go from project to project to project, are your tools scattered about and not put away or is everything neatly organized and always put back in its assigned spot?

 

I go through phases. I’ll tackle a few projects, then clean the garage and reorganize. But during those few projects it’s like a bomb of dirt, tools, blood, sweat, and tears. And usually some sort of oil or fluid on the ground.

 

Made it up to flagstaff. Trans got to 201 coming up the hill. Wife and I are having dinner per the recommendation of @snowsk8air2. Tomorrow we’ll get out to cinders!

No, pinouts are different between 05-11 and 12-15 switches.

 

One minor truck casualty:



maybe it’s just too much pressure for barb fittings and hose clamps. I don’t really know what to do. I’m gonna tighten those clamps a little more to get me through this trip and back home but this is getting annoying. It’s only on that fitting too. Doesn’t happen to any of the other fittings. It’s still sealed now it’s just seems like it’s happening when the trans gets under pressure and gets warm.

@snowsk8air2 anyone local here that carries push lock fittings? Probably should be using those. Need two 1/2” and two 3/8 and 2 unions I suppose.

 

looks like the hose is degrading already or something. is that atf rated hose? seems that could be a potential cause/problem.

 

That's fuel hose not oil cooler hose, fuel hose will not handle transmission fluid very long.

 

It’s fuel oil hose. Guess atf need something more chemically resistive?

I just ordered a literally crap ton of PTFE 6an line to redo all this stuff when my new cooler gets here Tuesday. Just need to Come up with a solution so I can have fun this weekend and make it home.

 

Lesson learned the hard way I guess.

 

Yea you need oil cooler hose, it's typically rated for around 150-200 psi.

 

The hose I was using was good for 300 PSI.
