I'm finally off of the fence about getting an OTT tune, are there any tuning events coming up for areas north of Denver? I'm in Loveland, and willing to travel a bit, I'm just trying to avoid Denver proper (as all good Coloradans do :p).

Additionally, after hitting countless threads on tunes, only one question remains. How much is throttle response affected at low speeds/low gears, like for crawling and trails?

Hey Ed! I hear you on the Denver part ha. I’ll be making a trip up (Colorado Toyota Tuning) for a tune event either the weekend of March 22nd or 29th, I’ll post on my IG/FB as well as here when I have a date/time set. If you want to shoot me an email too happy to reach out that way as well!
    My email is adam@coloradotoyotatuning.com

As for the question, I typically recommend the light/mild ECT throttle. It’s already so much more responsive than stock with all the benefits of the tune, plus suits our driving well (not spinning tires in winter, not too responsive that you have to feather throttle excessively on trails, etc).

Perfect - thanks! I just so happen to have Fridays off, so I'm definitely in.

Thanks for bringing up winter driving, I didn't think of it which is wild because I tend to do quite a bit of it. Other than that, I was definitely leaning toward a milder tune anyway as I'm not packing a lot of extra weight, and I'm only running 32" tires. I DO tend to be pretty heavy on the throttle most of the time; my commute is mostly on backroads and it seems like I'm always passing someone.

Yep, just keep me posted on date and time, I'm really looking forward to this.

Can someone help me understand the concept of a "tuning event"?
Why did you forego an OVT tune?

A tuning event is basically just tuners traveling to a location to get people that don’t want to travel (ie OP not wanting to drive into Denver) tuned.

OV Tune packs are very old and outdated. They were good when released since there was nothing like it, but OTT (overland tailor tune) is far superior and SEMA-CE/CARB pending (whereas no other NA 3GT tunes are).

Another Northern Colorado Tacoma here! I had my Tacoma tuned by you back in 2021 with an OV tune and I've been hearing more about people in the front range not passing emissions with their tune. Have you guys figured out a tune that wouldn't fail emissions? If you have, I would definitely interested for an updated tune at the tune event!

I seriously considered the OV Tune once I knew it was available, but as luck would have it, life took a turn for the worse in 2018 and I had to stop modding/wheeling altogether for a few years.

As I'm back in the saddle again, everything I've read about the OTT tune has been very positive, and as Adam has said the OV Tune is a bit dated at this point.

Hey Austin! I sent you an email, but posting here in case anyone else was curious too.

Some people have had issues with emissions, though not all fail. I think it just depends on the tech/station to be honest. OTT now is SEMA-CE (certified emissions) approved for the 3GT, which makes it 49 state emissions legal. While it should technically pass, some techs don't know better and could still fail it. However, OTT is also in the process of getting a CARB certification for the 3GT (it's currently pending), which is the golden ticket--at which point once approved it will pass emissions anywhere in the US. The timeline for the CARB approval is estimated at about 3 months out now (though that could change), so once we get it i'll be mailing out the CARB stickers to anyone tuned after 1/1/2024 with OTT (no extra charge). If you were tuned previously by me I have a $200 "Tune Upgrade" option (if you were on OV, KD, etc. this applies) so you don't have to pay full price.

I'll be posting details about the event soon!

Oh hell yes, SO worth it!

Adam recommended "Lite/Mild" for mine, and yes, it does indeed drive like a new truck. Nice smooth throttle response, no more garbage gear hunting, and ECT mode is now "get out of the way, I'm in a hurry" mode like I always thought it should be.
    Hell yeah. :burnrubber:
