    Hi all,
I had a random engine misfire ( I suspect) yesterday. I have a 2018 Trd sport with 77k on the odometer. I’m meticulous with maintenance and got an oil change about 2500 miles ago. Was driving really smoothly and suddenly the check engine light started flashing and the engine starting vibrating/chugging. I lost ability to accelerate and had to pull off the side of the road to get towed. It will be looked at by the dealership but was wondering if there’s any advice/ information people have if this is common? I find it really odd for a Toyota, online research points towards spark plugs? Thanks in advance for your help. It doesn’t seem covered by warranty but waiting to ask about that

Don’t know yet, I didn’t hook up my OBD port. I’m swinging by the dealership to get some stuff out and will update on the codes I get back. Thanks!

Can't really do much to help until you find out the codes.

here's the update so far... Before I got a chance to look at the codes they took it in for diagnosis. They initially thought it would be time to just replace the spark plugs so the tech did that and still got cylinder 2 misfiring. He then swapped ignition coils and still got a misfiring code. they said it could be corrosion on the wiring and requires another hour of diagnosing to look into it further. I have looked into some other forum posts but it seems like corrosion occurs mostly with off-roading which I haven't done. We'll see what they come back with, I have looked into the warranty and they are unsure if something further upstream would be covered. Has anyone else faced this issue (I know anything can happen with cars)? Apologies if I'm not communicating their message well, I'm trying to do as much research as possible on my end

okay I have an update here, I asked for the specific code and they are saying it is a T030200 code and they have recommended a replacement of the ECM, praying it is covered under warranty

Do you mean P030200? Did they check the compression on #2?

I just heard from the dealership and they verified that they did check the compression, as well as any leaks around valve units and wiring. Luckily it seems like this is covered under the Emissions 80k warranty. Thanks all, much appreciate it. Thankful for the forum and community of folks always willing to help.

Doesn't sound like they are doing shit for diagnosis. They are just firing the parts cannon at it.

I would also check for loose spark plugs. Many on TW have reported loose plugs from the factory.

Another update, after replacing the ECM sure enough it did not solve the problem. It is now getting looked at by a second master technician at Toyota so we shall see. They have checked compression, replaced spark plugs, checked for leaks and checked coils. Really curious what they come back with

Keep us in the loop, the fact that it has good compression and passed a leak down test is good news

Since all of the above checked out okay, you might ask the second tech about the #2 injector or the injector circuit.

Just called for an update...i got told it needs a new engine. I'm talking to the service rep and she is getting more details from the tech. She is calling Toyota to see if it will be covered, I'm hoping it will be. Honestly super disappointed, I know these things happen sometimes but I got a Taco hoping anything but the engine would give me trouble. Did I get a lemon?

Also heard it is a short block rather than a long block so its gonna be a piece of work to be put back together
