I have a 2004 toyota tacoma prerunner. Today I replaced the right side tail light assembly and that's when the issues started. After the assembly was replaced all the sudden the left side did not work and the auto transmission will not shift. Are they related or is it all just coincidental? Thank you for reading and any advice is appreciated.

Was this a stock replacement using stock bulbs or is it LED?

If the brake light fuse is blown, the transmission can be locked out as a safety thing

(source: my celica’s brake light circuit was blown, and would not shift out of park)

    Welcome to TW!
Take a breath we need some info.
Your replacing a stock tail light with a stock tail light?
Is it the whole assembly or a bulb?
Some leds can make your truck do weird stuff!

Does it have led bulbs in it?
    Is it a Toyota assembly?
    New used?
You could try unplugging the connectors and see if that cures your trans issues.
Any bare wires or issues making connections during installation?
May want to check fuses as mentioned

Disconnect the new taillight, make sure the fuse is good, then see if you're back to normal shifting and left light working.

If so you found your problem.

Here's an update! i disconnected the new assembly and put the old one in and just used the lense. She's back to her old self. Guess it's true about those little gremlins coming out to play sometimes lol. Thank you all for your advice. Funny how 4 screws and a clip can cause such an issue.

Glad it’s back I’d say your taillight assembly was the problem.
