    Hey Guys!

    Truck has been running great. 2013 Prerunner, 4.0, auto, 194K.

    Cranked it up this morning and the trac off & check engine lights were on.

    I drove to work approximately 13 miles. (slow process, but still able to achieve 55mph)

    It feels as though a governor kicked in and the engine rpm's will not go above 2000-2500 when in drive.

    The transmission is shifting and I can manually shift it through all 5 gears.

    In neutral the engine revs to 5K+ with no issue.

    I also pressed the traction control button multiple times, but no affect.

    Any input or troubleshooting suggestions would be great - thanks!

    It's in limp mode.

    If you recently filled with gas, remove the cap and reinstall.

    You describe typical 'loose gas cap' symptoms.

    First step is to see what code(s) you have otherwise we are juat guessing.
    Trac off light will always accompany a check engine light on Toyota.

    There is a AutoZone close to work, so I'll try to head there this morning and see if they can read any codes.
    Plus I'll reset the gas cap.

    Probably not the gas cap if it’s been 200 miles.
    Definitely get a scan tool. Probably can get same day delivery from Amazon. Report back what code(s) you find.

    Had the codes checked at AutoZone. I did reset the gas cap twice.

    Relatively easy to change but not a cheap part.

    You may want to check the filter in the Secondary Air Injection Pump and make sure it didn't get sucked in.

    @Dm93 , I have this same issue with mine. I got the P2443 code and I cleared it but just waiting for it to happen again and have fears over truck going into limp mode. A couple of quick questions....
    1. What are your thoughts on the Hewitt technology bypass kit
    2. Do you know if the bypass kit will enable my truck to pass emissions (I live in MA and they inspection every other year for emissions and safety. )
    3. I heard that the fix through toyota runs like $2500 and it really doesn't kind of fix the problem, only delays it for a while. What are your thoughts?

    Intermediate update: ordered the new Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve and will pick it up today.

    Removed the old unit. I did open the air pump and the filter was gone. (194K and never checked it) Both valves appear to be closed and I have not taken them apart to see the innards.

    Thoughts or input? Is the air pump suspect at this point?

    I can't speak on the product itself as I don't have one and we don't have emissions testing here so I can't really speak for that either but I can't say I've heard anything bad about them, they seem to be very good about answering any questions.

    As for the emissions inspection if it's just a plug a scan tool in and see if the monitors are set I don't see why it wouldn't pass as the module effectively simulates the signals of a normally operating SAIS so the PCM doesn't know any different.
    If you have a visual inspection where they look at stuff to make sure it's in place you may have an issue.

    I'm sure @hewitt-tech can answer any other questions you may have about it.

    The filter getting sucked into the system is probably is what stuck the valve, if it was mine I'd probably do the Uni filter, clean the valves, reinstall it, and see what happens.

    Got the new unit but wanted to look inside the old one.

    Both look like shit to me and I started to take the reeds apart and snapped the first screw in half. Next one wasn't budging either.
    Will install the new unit in the morning. Can I drive the truck with the new unit without clearing the codes??

    You can but it may still be in limp mode.

    Really Toyota? WTF - shit should not be this complicated to get off!! (trying not to break the tabs off)

    IMG_3990.jpg

    Got the new unit installed. Gonna borrow an ODB2 unit and clear the codes before driving.

    @Dm93
    @Clearwater Bill
    @AllTacosFloat

    I did clean the air pump, removed the degraded seal, tested the unit (battery & 2 wires, blew like a mofo) and sealed it back with some permatex.

    Cleared the P2442 code, took her for a spin and she is back to normal. I ordered the Uni filter and will install this week!

    I appreciate everyone's input on this thread. :thumbsup:
