I think it captures the intentionality behind it better than malaise. The latter seems more ethereal and natural instead of an intentional human act

Yeah agreed. It's also just a punchier word. Really visceral.

Didn't even know it had a name till now. So I wasted all that typing when all I needed was one word? I wonder what the word is for that?

Agree here. I didn't see them doing anything that would highlight any abuse or misuse of the truck to make it break like it did. It didn't seem to take much though. He was just trying to make gentle headway with an assist from the Colorado. I was more worried about them both suddenly slipping backward slowly then out of control and into each other and into the trees. If the Tacoma had got sideways and then got hit broadside by the rear of the Chevy, it could have flipped. The big danger they dodged was the Tacoma starting an uncontrolled backward drag of the Chevy. They did keep the strap taught for the most part and that helped. 4WD gone on a glare-ice covered rock ledge: Bad. You could see the obvious worry on both faces several times.

I would never have guessed that the soft "plink" sound heard was an axle, diff or transfer case failure. Have they posted the actual failure yet?

Someone really needs to teach the TFL asshats proper recovery techniques.

If they gave away the details already, they couldn’t stretch it into a 3-part video series for the clicks

You said “there are so many better options for driving in snow” than Trail Terrains. Here and here.

I am asking you what data you have that has led you to that conclusion. Which ATs are better? If there are “so many,” please show the data.

The data I can see indicates they are among the best winter ATs, if not the best.

I really don’t care what YouTube reviews say. I’ve been driving in the snow for 30 years. The best tires in the snow are real snow tires. There’s no comparison. The next best is an aggressive all terrain with a lot of siping. Mud tires are next. They are better for deep snow. Then all season. Everything is garbage. Those Trail Terrains fall in between an all terrain and all season. They are budget OEM tire.

So have I. This is irrelevant if you don’t have experience with the tires you’re making claims about. PS - I also linked an article several times.

This is true for all ATs, but you’re gaslighting here. Your prior comments implied there were better winter options in the AT category.

Now you are are gish galloping. Snow performance is dependent on tire compound and tread construction, but there are several different ways tread construction can create good snow performance. Siping is one way, 3D features such as ledges and voids are yet more.

You seem to be claiming you can predict relative snow performance by looking at the treads of different tires, and that is not entirely true. According to your logic, the Toyo AT3s, with their siping and their aggressive treads, should outperform the Trail Terrains in snow, but they very much do not. Clearly there is more to it than you think.

Correct, however nothing about this statement has any bearing on snow performance.

So, my request stands: show me the data that indicates other ATs are better snow options than Trail Terrains.

Why don’t you start a new thread on tires instead of derailing this one? A ton of us here said those Trail Terrains in the video look like they suck on snow, which they clearly did as the Chevy with different tires was fine. If you love the Trail Terrains then go ahead and buy them. I’d throw them in the trash if they came on my truck though.

I'm so very disappointed in almost all of you. Not one good Toyota diss meme/gif in 16 pages?

    Seriously? You all are slipping.

You can’t make any conclusions about the tires here. There are too many differing variables. Different trucks, different drivers, different lines, and likely different pressures. Moreover, driveline components tend to break when tires gain traction.

So you admit you were making an unsubstantiated claim based not on actual data or knowledge, but rather on preconceived bias, conjecture, and a flawed understanding of tire design. Ok then.

I wonder if we will ever know exactly what broke.

I’m guessing Toyota corp will take the transfer case send the dealer a new one.
