I am hoping the 4th Gen Tacoma flops like the Tundra. Then I might be tempted to buy if I see $9000 off MSRP on the window.

I've just now got 22k on my 2020 DCLB and finally have it nearly fully modded as I've always wanted (save a WeBoost, CB, and install of my new SSO front bumper, winch and Auxlight electronics and lights) so I won't be ready for a trade in for 5 or 10 years.
I love the way my current truck looks now!

Yep, comically cheap. Of course the trucks have become anything but, Tacomas kinda made sense sub $40K, now pushing $50K++, that opens a lot more options in that price range.

The main reason I got my 2023 was the 4th gens were changing a lot, I didn't want a four cylinder or turbo and the price was going up a lot.

Got mine in December for just under $43000 OTD, the same configuration for a 2024 would be about $17,000 more!

3rd gens been around for quite a while, a lot more parts and accessories at a much better price point, not to mention knowledge about their issues.

For those that may not believe the price, I will attach a screenshot of my payment sent in January to pay it off. I let the dealership finance it through Toyota so they could get a little from them, I told them up front I intended to pay it off after the first of the year.

Same here. Just working on replacing a head gasket on an Audi A4 TDI. You cannot imagine how much I love my 2023 Tacoma! It really has to be beyond repair for me to separate from it.

So happy with my 3rd gen I'm on my 4th one! I kicked myself for not buying a 2021 Tundra before they were gone. I wasn't gonna let that happen with the Tacoma, love the V6!

Though the new dash is much better. Could live without the wood grain finish though.

I still haven't even seen a 4th generation in person.

The manual transmission was the big draw for me on the 3rd gen. I had a 94 Toyota pickup but could have been swayed into an F150 or Colorado or even a Frontier if they had a stick shift option. I got lucky with my truck's specs, but had it been exactly the same and automatic I wouldn't have even gone to look at it. The new Bronco was cool but it was too new both from a price point perspective and also the long term issues were TBD. I've never been a huge fan of Jeeps but some of the manual Wranglers are cool.

I'm guessing it will be several months after I see a 4th gen before I see one that has a manual transmission. The options for the manual aren't ideal (they were on the 3rd gen -- you could get a Pro, OR, or Sport with 6MT). At the beginning of the 3rd gen run you could even get a base 4 cylinder with the 5 speed manual. iirc the only option for the 4th gen with a stick is the hybrid, which I dislike on principle alone. The turbo 4 cylinder would at least be fun (albeit it likely unreliable which defeats the purpose of a Tacoma for a large portion of its buyers).

The whole thing annoys me, but it's just a function of the global powers that be which we are largely unable to stop :)

Ever owned a Nissan? Probably some of the cheapest plastics I’ve ever seen in a truck.

This recall isn’t earth shattering……the type same recall hit Tundra a few years back.

not me. oil leaks some of which are very costly to repair, diff whine, water leaks, coolant leaks, acis flap failures, burnt valves, loose plugs from the factory, underfilled fluids from the factory, crooked body panels, squeaks and rattles galore, drivetrain vibrations, rusty frames, batteries that fail too soon, weak leaf springs, oil pressure issues on steep inclines, etc.

these may not or may not be common but i certainly don't feel better about it because of the 4th gen release. more extended warranties have likely been purchased with this gen tacoma than all others combined.

the turd gen earned its name. while there are exceptions, at best it's a 200K mile truck. i've had and continue to have as much confidence in other brands reaching that mile mark with nothing more than routine maintenance.

toyota, and specifically the tacoma, has lost its way. at least the way i think about it.

Your truck has had all these issues? I'd have traded it in a long time ago.

    I like spending money.

But more on things other than new vehicles. Like travel. Or helping others.

My '13 is just fine, still capable of doing more than I need it to do. Even though it's almost the lowest of the low in it's peer group.
