It’s a bummer. I like spring but a lot of people around here depend on snow for their livelihood.

Fun fact of the day: fluorescent lights are sized in eighths, so a t8 bulb is 8/8, or 1” in diameter. T12 is 1.5”, can you guess what a t5 is?

Regarding replacing light bulbs, we bought a new Christmas tree two years ago. The new tree (9' tall LED) draws 48 watts, but dips down to 10 watts because it dims and changes colors. The old tree (7' incandescent) pulled about 325 watts. That's a heck of a difference in power consumption. Should only take about 24 years for the tree to pay for itself. :p

Switching from plasma TV to an LCD, it paid for itself in about 2 years. Those plasmas looked great but were energy hogs.

At the way back job the building was built in the early 50's.

Way, way up in the rafters were some original fluorescent fixtures with massive T17 lamps. The pins were much larger than T12/T8 lamps, almost the diameter of a pencil it seems.

My LED lights in my shop are throw away. I have nine overhead. When they burn out, i have to re wire each one, and my ceiling is 14 feet. I have done it once. Next round, an electrician is going to do it and wire in some plugs. It's not expensive, like $8 apiece, but at 60 I am not going to be working at 14 ft with only two points of contact on the ladder. I now know why older people fall off ladders. I am 60 but damn, I climb a ladder and quickly realize I am not 20.

Anyone have experience with hardmilling steels in the 62-65Rc range?
I’m getting tired of fighting post heat treat warp and movement, so I’m considering moving to heat treating blanks first and then finishing with Hard milling.

I did the same thing in my garage which is a converted carport. Although they're just plug in shop lights that if they burn out just unplug and replace.

Also since in the early stages of the carport conversion I caught someone snooping around one night (well known drug user in the area) I put up some cheap LED lights on both sides of the garage door that are on 24/7. Also helps illuminate the truck leaving the house at quarter to 4 in the morning.
