The biggest reason I got a 3rd gen was because it didn’t have any of the new things most other trucks have now, like auto start stop. Plus it was turbo free.

Turbo free was “one” of the biggest reasons for me.

V6 and a proven platform was my rationale.

Even my poverty model SR got a full-size spare. Though immediately swapped out for AT 265/75 SL’s

That is exactly where my mind goes. More capacity, power, bigger fuel tank, nearly the same mpgs.

For all the beefing up of the 4G, capacities didn’t improve, and and some cases like the hybrid got worse. Can get 1700 lbs payload, but assuming that will be only in the Trail Hunter, which will be $70K at the end of the day. Ahhhhh yeahhhh….fuck that. $70K buys a rather nice diesel 3/4-1 Ton that can actually haul and tow something.

Hell if I wanted another full-size truck, I would’ve bought a full-size truck. Call me crazy but I bought it Tacoma cause I wanted a Tacoma

True, new Colorado and Silverado are pretty nice. Though don’t think luxury interiors belong in a truck.

    Bring back simple. :)

Have you looked at the measurements of the 4th Gen Tacoma? Almost as big as a Tundra now.

I could see the argument for the 1st Gen size wise, but not the 3rd Gen and especially not the 4th. My ‘21 is noticeably bigger than my ‘99. There are spots I like to go that my 3G won’t fit (without body damage) but my 1G does. Don’t even have to go too far either, right on our property my 1G barely fits between a fence and wall, no way my 3G will.

can't say i have any reason to want another truck.

As for the rear axel recall, It's a known recall that they don't have a "fix plan" for yet. if it breaks between now and the time they get that taken care of, they've already admitted manufacturing fault and it's covered.

if you're worried, hop under the truck every few days and check to see if the bolts are loose. No reason to wait until it's completely broken if you don't have to.

Moving forward, if i ever get another truck and Toyota continues to use turbo 4 bangers, I'll have to purchase the last small midsize truck with a stick and v6… the Jeep gladiator. Just my preference, but again, I'll literally drive this thing till the axels fall off most likely.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Despite some 3.5 Tacomas having issues, I’m still gonna take the chance and run it. If it shits the bed, well, I’ll probably try to swing for a full-size V8 pickup truck if the 4th gen Tacoma turns out to be not great.

Hopefully mine turns out to be good though.

I've checked mine even though it's not on the recall list.

Also, next dealership visit I'll request techs to check the torque specs in that area...no harm in asking. :D

I agree with what you said about literally driving it until the axels fall off.

the 4G is too damn ugly to even make me consider buying one. I didn’t think they could make a truck that I despise the looks of worse than a new tundra but Toyota has gone and done it

It is like contest of who can build the ugliest truck. Lol!

4G is sorta of growing on me, but feel like I am forcing myself. The loss of the access cab and few other things have me looking elsewhere for the next truck, that or keep on keeping on what have done for years, make what I have last as long as possible. Have even considered picking up another slightly used AC. Feel like I have to do that with most things anymore, might as well get a few of them because they’ll definitely quit making it if I like it. Lol!

Hey…..if you like it, go for it.
I will never dog someone for their choice. If it’s a more appealing package for you, that’s awesome!

Maybe the styling will change a bit on a few years. It’s just too much for me now. And I learned about 15 years ago, never buy the 1st year of model revamp.

Gonna give it a few years.

Hated the 3rd Gen when it first came out too, took me almost to the end of the generation to start liking it.

    Have been eyeballing F150s lately.

I'm thinking about a 4th generation. But today I took out my 2023 on a 60 degree day, windows down, shifting through the gears, and if I can just get the window molding issue fixed I'd keep it. It's really a nice truck and I picked it up cheap, I need to shake the I'm aggravated at it and just keep it.
