3500 is gonna be right at the limit - won’t have much left as far as payload in the bed of the truck. What kind of trailer?

I suspect that is going to be a struggle on the highway. Not so much the weight maybe, but the frontal area is going to be like pulling a sail

I have a 17' hybrid trailer that is marketed at 2100 lbs dry. My numbers loaded with the family and gear to the best of my ability are below. I wouldn't tow this trailer with a 4 cylinder. It is a struggle to get up and down large mountain passes with the 6 cylinder. I've put the tow hitch, wire harness, green "towing" fan clutch, transmission cooler, and have good brakes. There is a towing section here and elsewhere. My advice, start by reading the towing bible, and if you plan to tow regularly, get a full size truck.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It comes down to your planned use. A few trips a year less than a 100 miles and home.

Drag the camper around the country for weeks at a time going thousands of miles.

This truck would not be my first choice but one does what one needs to .

When towing any amount of weight over 2000 pounds I avoided Interstates I did not have enough Horse Power to drive with traffic.

Is there a possibility that you could try out the truck - trailer combination before you buy the trailer. The guy selling the trailer doenst care if you have tow vehicle "issues". The 2.4 isnt a powerhouse to begin with. Assuming manual transmission too, if not, that is something else that will need adressing.
