I'm not too sure but it would be crazy if it went into limp mode for a grill shutter malfunction. It's only a matter of time until someone makes a bypass for it. It's pretty safe to say most of us here don't care for the .5 MPG gain with it

Yeah they mostly hate the 4th gen because of the way it looks. I plan on getting a TRD Offroad so the cluster doesn't bug me much. I'm just waiting to see what's going on with the QC hold and Shutter issues. Mostly I'm waiting because I can't find my specific truck lol

Is there any beta about the fuel door? I hope it’s just as cheap and flimsy as the third gen.

That cluster looks fit for a Geo Metro, lol.

Toyotas always seem to throw codes for everything when one little thing doesn’t work. If I had to guess it disables all those systems when a check engine light is thrown. My old 03 4Runner would disable traction control and vehicle stability control when the check engine light came on.

I wish we could get the premium package without the moonroof and the upgrade package without the dumb dash speaker

The temp & fuel readouts on that cluster are pulled straight from an ‘80’s era Nissan 300ZX w digital dash.

For $50k they should throw in a member’s only jacket free of charge.

Nah, the temp and fuel gauges on that 35 year old Nissan offer finer measurements. 4 bars to a half tank and operating temp on the Tacoma? Get the fuck outta here with that shit Toyota.

Best to leave those bar gauges buried back in the 1980’s along with Rubik’s Cubes.

But I do endorse channeling those VG30ET sounds through the speakers to cancel the out the 2.4T’s turbo tractor noise.

People complained about GM's screens in the lower trims and they changed it for the second model year. So perhaps Toyota can follow suit and upgrade all trims since a SR 4x4 is $40,000 now.

I picture a meeting between accountants and engineers where several gauge clusters were compared versus cost, and it’s difficult to imagine a lower-cost alternative than the one they selected for the lower trims. Later, they debated spare tires. After lunch, they decided on skid plate materials…

All trims cost buyers a lot more, so hopefully they make this right.

I drove a Chevy Colorado over the weekend. They wanted $52k for it. Comparing that to the Tacoma limited it was way inferior (at least specwise). Worse cameras with fewer options, interior more plasticky then Tacoma limited, no power rear window, no power tailgate, leaf springs versus coil and adaptive variable suspension, only power in bed instead of power + usb ports, no running boards vs auto running boards (which is mostly just a gimmick as they are not needed on a truck this size but still...). I went down the list with the salesman and he could only shrug. I said maybe if the Colorado was $42k instead of $52k like they wanted it would be interesting. Nice looking truck and drove fine but sheesh. Best Toyota salesman I've run into this year really. I'll be very curious to testdrive the limited. So far only got a short, short testdrive on the SR5 and forgetting what it felt like already.

It would have been great if they used all these cheap products and sold us a truck for $25K as a Maverick competitor. But nope they use the cheap crap and sell it for $35K instead. Maximum profits seems to be the new Toyota leadership’s goals rather than quality.

I was thinking about putting a z31 dash in the tacoma, if I could only source one. It'd be quite the project but it can't be that hard.

First they came for the leaf springs and I did not speak out—
Because in my pants was only unsprung weight.

Then they came for the full-size spare, and I did not speak out—
Wait, this is TacomaWorld, everyone’s always speaking out. Carry on, yo.

Of course it's coming up short, you're not comparing apples to apples at all.

As they all began to walk out of the room, one accountant proclaimed "Wait! What if we removed the locking hinge on the back seat and replaced it with a fabric strap and button snap!"

    And so it was done.

That strap has got to be the cheesiest thing on the truck. It just screams $54K truck.
