Hi so basically I am trying to lower my truck suspension and what I want to know is 1. Will I have to buy a kit or can I do it with the stock parts I have on now and 2. If I do have to put some money down for parts how much would it be and what parts should I be looking for. I am still learning about cars right now I am 19 and this is my first car. It’s a 2000 Toyota Tacoma prerunner single cab 22RE engine 4cyl.IMG_6904.jpg

    22re ended in 95. If the tacoma is a 4cyl, it came with 2rz 2.4l or 3rz 2.7l

I didn’t know that. I was told by someone who rebuilt a 22RE that my engine was a 22RE. Maybe someone put a 22RE in there or something.

Highly unlikely. Look at the sticker on your hood or post a picture of your engine bay.

    If some swap a 22re in for a 2rz/3rz, that's not ideal

BTW, the piece you want to remove is the overload spring. Personally, I wouldn't remove it because there's nothing to support the other springs if you were to leave weight in the bed.

This is interesting, did I miss something, did you mention how much you’re trying to lower your truck?

welcome to TW, congratulations on your new truck

    Nice truck.

Most people that lower Tacoma's start with a 5-lug model. 5-lug Tacomas are also worth quite a bit less than Prerunners.
If I were you and wanted to build a street truck I'd sell or swap for a 5-lug. You'll probably make money on the deal that you can use to buy new suspension.

Prerunners are made to be lifted and 4x4 swapped, 5 lugs are made to be slammed and turboed.

Being a prerunner, you have the 6 lug suspension geometry that you'll be fighting. Being that it's a rare thing to drop a truck with 4x4 suspension geometry, there are no kits and it takes some creativity. I was able to put 4cyl front suspension and pull some leaf springs (left the overload) and that got me dropped maybe an inch in the front with the rear leveled to match. Being that you're already a 4cyl you probably won't be able to do much outside of something radical. Good luck!

I like the ingress of how my truck sits, loading the bed is easier, and still works as a 4x4. It's not my problem if folks can't fathom lowering a 4x4 to fit my needs.

I was reiterating your point that not everyone has the same needs from these trucks, the mindset that they should all be lifted unless a 5 lugs is a tired tripe.
