I would almost rather they just leave the strap out all together and spew some BS like "we don't feel locking the seats upright is necessary as customers can load their cargo on top of the seat."

The current implementation states "We recognize you want to have the seats up, but are too cheap to provide you a proper solution. Deal with it."

    Same guy, ten years ago:

“So as you can see, plastic coolant pipes are every bit as good for the customer, plus they save us two dollars per unit…it’s a win-win!”

    Followed by applause.

It seems you may have missed the word "almost" in my statement. Also, this is Tacoma World - rational or logical points of view are not what we are known for.

The strap and button combo may work perfectly fine, but its hard to imagine a billion dollar corporation could not come up with something better. The reality is they can, and likely did, before scrapping it for this implementation.

I blame too much R&D money being spent on Iso Dynamic and ejectable speaker nonsense.

I’d rather have nothing than see that hideous strap every time I open the back doors.

Strap and button is inexpensive, simple, and just works. It’s a throwback to how Tacomas used to be.

Not really. The rear seats used to fold down nicely. Now, not at all. Definitely wasn’t an improvement.

That makes no sense. The truck itself is not inexpensive and simple.

The 3rd gen load area once folded was cool and all but that was the biggest PITA to go from seating, to load area, back to seating.

The 4th gen setup is a massive improvement to me. Easy to fold down the headrests and seats, larger underseat storage that is far easier to access, seatbelt buckles stay in place and you don't have to fish for them.

My '95 extended cab didn't have a strap and button, just a hinge that held it secure when folded up.

*pic courtesy of Google. RIP to that '95.

The 3rd gen rear deck is awesome. Mine stays down almost all the time for dogs and gear. Throw a moving blanket over that space and you're good to go. Literally takes 2 minutes if you want the seats up. I think the 4th gen is a step back; not sure it even folds completely flat.

This is great. Reminds me of simpler times. By simpler, I mean before crash testing likely ruled out this type of seating setup.

We typically used ours to carry humans for distances <5 miles. The bench in the front held 3 anyways. The rest of the time the back was used for storage, but it was the perfect space. The compartments in the floor were great as well.

To answer your question though, I am not sure Sheldon even fits in the 2024...

I hate the falling seatbelt buckles in my 2nd gen ugh...like was it too hard for them to engineer them to stay? Took until the 4th gen to finally have them lmao
