got out friday after work. 1 trail was good, most others were too soft and muddy for riding.

finally hit this drop i've been eyeing for a year or two. first mountain bike ride of the year too. gonna be a fun season

Did a gravel ride this weekend on Cape - weather was awesome and hit close to 25 miles with the majority being either singletrack or fire roads. The new Shafer is super comfortable, no complaints to date.

We'll be heading there later this summer, can you point me win the right direction of some fun, gravelly stuff?

Here is a copy of the ride we did that day - started in Barnstable and went to Grays beach in Yarmouth. Have a bunch of other rides in the area I can send along; nice thing about the Cape is the seemingly endless amount of gravel rides you can create. Even most of the MTB singletrack is very mellow and fine on a drop bar bike. Been planning a big ride from Sandwich out to Provincetown with minimal roads that will hopefully come to fruition in May. The rail trail is mostly paved and you can pick it up in Yarmouth by Willow Street and make it to Wellfleet; the idea is to cut off it a bit early and ride a lot of the National Seashore singletrack to make it a bit more exciting.

Where are you going to be staying?

New Optic has caught my eye. I've never ridden a high pivot though.

    interesting.
i wonder what is changing with the new model. the specs they listed are the same as the current version on transitions page. something geometry wise had to change im guessing. it cant just be a new colorway?

    No :spending:

At the same time it’s tough to look past the price. $3k for a frame only, which is sexy purple and has UDH. Or $3400 for a full build of the same bike (NX build, last years color, nonUDH).

Can’t find details yet, aside from colors and addition of UDH. No horse in the race for me, just a fanboy passing along new info.

haha so tempting. I noticed the spire is huckleberry and the spur is blackberry. If they weren't exactly matching then it would annoy me for that price haha

UDH might be worth it on something like the spur in the event I decided to go transmission eventually...not to sure about that move though

ive been internally debating the transam in chrome or an older spur for some rides im doing this year.

very much leaning towards the transam since i would probably ride it more around here and keep it pretty much forever. but the spur would probably be faster in races...

That's definitely a nice looking machine, but I don't understand it. I thought the main reason for a high pivot was to keep the drivetrain as a parallelogram, therefore no pedal kick. On a short travel bike, how much pedal kick can you really get or is there more to a high pivot design than just pedal kick?

I think part of high pivot is also a more rearward axle path compared to lower pivots. I'm guessing the idea with the optic is that since it is an aggressive trail bike it could benefit from the rearward path

my understanding is it's just more rearward than a regular pivot but I guess in theory with linkage you can make it so the path is actually rearward, I've never gone too deep into it other than drawing to circles next to each other on a piece of paper haha

If you are out that way, I'd highly recommend some of the roads through the national seashore and roaming around the abandoned Truro Air Force Base. Quite an eerie place with the row homes built in the 50's.

Ouf 120mm bike that weighs as much as a 150mm bike, why not just go for more travel? I haven't ridden my Druid enough to have anything in depth to say about high pivots yet.

In other news, a buddy just talked me into signing up for a DH race in a month. The body is not ready.. Have been engaging in daily repentance on the trainer since the weather is ass. And the woman just brought home a case of girl scout cookies... :cookiemonster:

    Fezzari is now Ari?

I thought Fezzari bikes were just being discounted like everything else.
