I feel like Toyota is starting to go down the GM path

Funny how there are more trolls in the 4G than 3G forum. More accepting people in the 3G. Curious why a 4 would last 3 years, that's quite the statement to make.

Yeah we all know that Toyota has zero experience making forced-induction engines. For decades all those de-tuned turbo diesel Land Cruisers getting beat to crap in the Australian Outback have been crumbling after 2 years of service. Thank you so much for finally bringing some common sense to this forum! How did anyone get anywhere without YOU!

Turbo diesel and a petrol 4 cylinder turbo are not even one bit comparable complete apples to oranges

I could be very wrong but looking at the specs of the new Tacoma a 4 cylinder(sorry probably wrong on a v4) with the Same amount of hp and torque or more. Just feel like the engine will wear out faster it’s not lasting as long

A lot of folks have their opinion.

Everyone likes to say "trust the engineers, they know what they are doing" when it comes to modifying the truck, but then turn around and talk about how Toyota got it all wrong with the 4th gen. What, we no longer trust the engineers? Everyone wants to hate on a turbo 4 like its some new thing, but turbo 4's have proven to be reliable engines for many years now across many manufacturers. Sure, 20 years ago when manu's started going with more turbo motors it was iffy and there were longevity issues, but thats not the case anymore. They've been refined.

Naysayers will nitpick and be loud about any issues that arise regardless how trivial or insignificant they may be. Fanbois will praise and brag about it and play the "told you so" game. In the end its all about how you look at your glass, half full or half empty. I just prefer to drink whatever I have in the glass and refill it.

OP says they’re going down the GM path. Saab was once owned by GM. OP gets by on a technicality.

Eh probably not. One would assume a motor with less cyl would need to work harder to produce the same power as a motor with more cyl, but thats old school mentality and not the case. Yes, a turbo is a wear item and will need replacing at some point, but with regular maintenance they will last a long time. It won't be until folks try pushing the turbo hard beyond it's intended ranges with tuning that we will see issues.

But, a boosted motor does open up a lot of tuning capabilities to produce power that our 6cyl motors couldn't achieve without a serious overhaul so... but reliability can take a hit, though I've seen many high HP builds last a lifetime without issues.

Depends on how they designed it…if they built the internals correctly it may well last longer.

No way they cost as much as the injectors on my N54 135.

Ohh they’ve come down post pandemic, they peaked at $3800 a couple years back.

A Ducati motor would be sick! That would still be an upgrade in power for me with my 2.7 liter. haha
