Non-spec 2024 Tacoma's being delivered, be very careful

My 2011 has a temp use spare not a dinky thing but it is not the same as the regular tires and wheels. Only complaint it was in up side down (at least as far as I was concerned) I did turn it over so I could put air in it with out taking it out.

 

Seems like the full-size spare is an option on the SR5. Now you know.

 

My definition of full size is different.

 

I think they've still got some work to do. According to the website the SR 5' AT 4wd doesn't come with a spare yet the SR 6' AT 2wd still comes with a full size. And from owner reports/pics on all trims the spare tire ODs (rim + tire) are approximately the same as the drive wheels whether they are "full size" or not, but all spares are still convenience temps. And what option package on the SR5 includes the full size? And is the full size included with the option package a matching full size or a temp "full size".

Just think how much time and effort they could save by just listing clearly what they are providing rather than dancing around some ambiguous interpretation of what a full size spare is.

 

Or they could not be greedy bastards and just spend an extra $20 per truck and give everyone a real matching full-size spare.

 

The dash doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with a spare. It means it isn’t full size.

Has anyone noticed how much Toyota stock has increased in 2024? 37% !!!

 

I see so many swapped wheels on Toyota's from other models. Ridiculous that's no longer going to be an option.

 

Agree that is what it probably means but I'm not sure one can make any assumptions at this point until they state exactly what they are providing or add separate rows (temp, full size temp, matching full size). Full size doesn't mean full size anymore...

 

Kinda funny but I had a 2013 Elantra. When I bought it had a small cigarette lighter powered air compressor and a can of stop leak for the spare. We got our first flat that was a hole in the side wall. I had AAA and the tow truck driver acted like I was a tard showed up thew the trunk open moved the shelf cover and asked where's the spare. Right there the stop leak and air compressor. No jack. It was to meet government cafe standards.

Though I’m not sure Cafe au Lait is why. Probably it was cheaper. Like, 20-35 lbs of difference isn’t going to throw the fuel economy measurably, and you could always use aluminum on the control arms or hood or something if it’s that’s razor-close. I’m going with “cheapening” or, as my friend @Bertw192 calls it in his industry, “value engineering” as my final answer.

I was told by the salesman that it wasn't supplied. When I bought it for my wife. They said it was for gas mileage and because it was a waste of money because only a small percentage of spares are used. But for around 500 I could have gotten a spare, jack and tool kit. It was the only year the did that.

 

This SR5 has a full size spare. I'm confused why yours did not?

Would be real interesting to find out if GST and SET were specing their trucks with smaller tires on the SR5s.

 

I guess when you pay $53K for a basic SR5 you get a full size spare. WTF.

as long as the rim is the same size and can handle highways speeds okay, im changing the tires for a bit bigger so the spare will be changed out as well.

 

Yes, you wouldn’t be the first person to say that. I’ve been lectured that you’re not supposed to keep the spare with the valve side down, but I’m like I am not dropping it every few weeks to check the pressure.
