I wish another company would buy Jeep from FCA and simplify things. Or at least put them together properly, which FCA can’t seem to do.

And bring back the inline 6, lol. I had 2 of those with no major problems. Could never happen with today’s fuel economy restrictions though.

Holy crap. You've never had an FCA product, or a Ford product it sounds like.
I've had both, and especially with FCA, the engine issues make anything Toyota has look like a slice of fried Gold.

After owning 6 Jeeps including a Pentastar 3.6, the 2GR-FKS is a freaking ROCK in both longevity and maintenance terms.
My experience with it has been exactly 180 degrees off of what you described.

Me too. I loved my Jeeps (especially my 45 MB) and loved my JKRU......until I didn't.
If they could come even remotely close to Toyota in the longevity or maintenance dept judging from my own experiences, I'd buy another for sure.

EJS is WAY too fun. I've been to 7 now, and if I can talk the wife into going, I'll take the Taco there and keep things to 7 rated trails or under, to save wear and tear.

Nice! I had a CJ and an XJ. I was going back and forth between wanting another Jeep or getting into a Tacoma. I used to stalk the JL forums, but lost interest. They’re too complicated and overpriced now, the build quality doesn’t justify it.

It’s looking like a used 3g Taco at the moment.

Comparatively speaking, my Tacoma (first Toyota I've ever owned) has been a gem of quality and reliability compared to all my Jeeps, with the exception of my Willys.
The really only truly redeeming qualities my FCA Jeep had was it's outstanding resale value and it's off-road prowess.

Seems like all gen of engines have their issues. Old 22R’s the chain guides would break, also oil pump failures, the 3.0 had head gasket issues, terrible fuel economy for being incredibly underpowered, the 3.4 needing a timing belt every 90K. After all these years of practice you think they could build the “perfect” engine with no glitches.

Their old 4 cylinder diesels for the foreign market supposedly had a 500K service interval. iirc it was the 1KZ-TE.

The truth hurts and that's okay.

All engines have issues, some less some more.

It’s just some folks on here make it sound like the 3.5 is absolute garbage in terms of reliability.

It's a gimmick designed for North America's emissions laws and really nothing more.

It does just fine off-road, but thank you.

    Nice pics @Junkhead.

I don't off road but I appreciate your photos.

And I believe in the 3.5L engine in my Sport.

    Clinch isn’t wrong.

I have no issue with the 3.5, suits my cantankerous middle-aged man slow driving style just fine, but would have much preferred a diesel. Gobs of torque, decent fuel consumption, not too terribly fast, sign me up! lol!

Believe if BEVs ever go mainstream, it should satisfy most users, sure some will still bitch though. ;) :D

lol - After taking my 2GR-FKS off-road, the reality is it did considerably better than the 3.6 Pentastar did, and leaps and bounds better than my L134. Seems there are lot in here who have had similar experiences with taking their 2GR-FKS off road.

I know it's tough sometimes when you realize your opinion isn't fact, but we all need a lil reality in our lives.

The Tacoma is a refined amazing machine compared to my 2017 JKU. That said there is no better off road vehicle that I know of than the Wrangler. Hated it when I first got it but it's grown on me. I won't put my Tacoma on the salty ocean beaches near me but my wifes Wrangler spends the entire summer on the beach and being towed behind my motorhome. The Jeep has its place and if you honestly hate it they're easy to get out of...........sounds familiar.

Every Jeep I've owned has maintained or increased in value for sure.
Toyota makes it way harder to mod and lift their rigs than Jeep does, but their lack of refinement and longevity makes them a hard own if it's all you have.

Is “Jeep” allowed to be mentioned this much without this thread getting flagged :D?

I mean yes it was designed for NA emission laws but I don’t see issues regarding port or DI on these engines. At least Toyota was nice enough to have port as well so it cleans intake valves. I don’t have much trust in DI only engines.

Diesel MPGs would be really awesome. It would double buttttt we live in NA and can only dream about it. :)

I’m from Eastern Europe and diesel still rules there.

As far as the 2GR-FKS goes, I can only go with the facts based off of my own experiences, and while it's no powerhouse, it does great off camber, inclined and off road in general.
I too would love a diesel but with a ton of time on the rocks and mud with a wide variety of engines the 2GR-FKS does great.

I'm actually anxious to see how the 392 in my brothers JL does on the rocks and if we get any overheating issues when spending 5-8 hours at 3 - 25 mph.

Apologies, that's the last I'll bring up the "J" word.
