shortbed w/ a motorcycle

does anyone have a picture of their shortbed truck with a motorcycle in it? i would like to find out how much room is left at the end...? or if i could even add a tool box and still fit a bike

 

use a tape measure... not being a smartass either. i measured the bed with the tailgate down and i believe it was like 6'9" and then i measured the front tip of the front tire on my bike to the bottom of the rear tire (where it sits on the ground) and it was like 6'. so, it depends on how long your bike is. i'm pretty sure the whole bike will sit on the bed itself, but it will stick out too far to close the tailgate.

 

yeah i know it will fit with the tailgate down but i dont know if i can add a tool box? or do i have to get a LB for that? seems like the dealerships around here doesnt carry many LB's...

 

really?! wow, i had to kill an old lady to get my SB! well, you should have that extra 9" for the tool box... but the rear tire will actually be sitting on the tailgate, which will be able to support the weight no problem!

 

plus, you can always remove your tool box when you are going to haul your bike... four bolts and it's out!

 

yeah, you might be better off with a LB if you need your toolbox at all times

 

I've carried my bike in the bed of my SBDC and had to have it at an angle to keep the rear tire off the tailgate (mostly). With a tool box there would be no chance. The weight of a 750lb bike distributed onto the tailgate could easily bend it if you hit one decent bump. I'd go long-bed if you're planning on hauling the bike often and have to a tool box.
I would have gotten the DCLB if they offered it in the TRD off-road and the options I wanted.

 

I shoved my 05 ZZR600 into my bed just fine. I couldn't raise the tailgate, but it didn't have any problem fitting at all.

I've done a lot of motorcycle hauling in my DC SB Taco. A couple things:

1. There is no way in the world you could fit a tool chest and a bike in a short bed.

2. A sportbike will have the rear tire sitting on the tailgate if you put it in straight. The bed extender will not fit.

3. You need to be careful with the tailgate while loading the bike in the bed, but there is no way you're going to have tailgate failure once the bike is all the way in. I don't care how big of a bump you hit. Last month I was involved in a 65mph t-bone accident (I t-boned some a-hole trying to make an exit). Bike was strapped in the back as described in #2 and it didn't phase the tailgate. Front of the bed was dented from the front wheel. Truck was totaled. Tailgate wasn't phased.

4. Given the safety of my bike during the wreck (and the bike I was towing on a trailer at the same time) I am declaring myself the king of motorcycle strapping down. I would highly discourage loading your bike in the bed at an angle. I know folks do it but it is not as secure particularly in the event of an unexpected stop or manuever. Loading staight in and strapping down at 45 degree angles to the front is what gives you the ultimate stability.

here is my long bed with my gsxr. tailgate had to stay down. no way you fitting a toolbox and bike in a shortbed unless maybe you put the bike on an angle.

loaded the bike... vstar 1300, bent the hell out of the tailgate. I Cant take get the bike back in to take pics, but it sat and the tailgate, and while unloading it without the reinforced tailgate dont try loading!!!!!

 

he was asking about a motorcycle not a tank..only kidding.
