Front differential bolt

To be honest, I had zero issues removing my old plug. Replacing it with the new plug was preventative in every way.

 

Same, but I hate that’s it’s not a raised hex head because then I usually have to climb out from under the truck to get the correct one lol

 

I used a hammer to ensure the 10mm was seated and it came right out.

 

No issue with my factory plug, came out easy. Even had the upgraded Lexus one sitting in tool box just incase.

 

Send me the Lexus one.

I bought the truck used with 52,000 and I bet the differential fluid has never been changed.

Next is the Transfer case....

 

I’m tackling the transfer case next myself. Debating over the OE Toyota fluid or Redline. The price of the OE stuff seems tantamount to highway robbery.

You really want the fill plug as well, that ones a bitch to get off. I ordered these Lexus parts from SSL-Parts dot com a year and half ago. Shipped was $22 for both.

Does anyone know if the fill and drain plug are the same threads? Wondering if I could just order two of the raised head plugs.

 

Ordered a similar one but with a larger magnet for the drain and one with a M18x1.5 pattern to replace the fill plug as well. Of course the drain plug striped out on its last use. I welded an old socket on it and got it out with a ratchet.

 

Fill plug is the same thread as your transfer case and rear diff. Front diff drain plug is larger.

I actually use the front diff fill plug on the rear diff. Smooth profile so it can't catch on rocks and loosen.
