60+ year old thread.

Is this good or bad? I have the same diagnoses with my right shoulder, so I have to keep up with my shoulder exercises to keep the pain away. It is not a bad problem to have.

Welcome and I have the same problems. I believe baggies changed the closing press lock.

Good morning. Music lesson today and not much else.

 

I'm on our 3rd system the first was forced air electric, the last 2 have been natural gas. But when going from electric to gas the only option is high efficiency the first year of chamge 30 years ago was 400 dollar heating bill down to 67 winter to winter. Yhe second furnace I put in that guy looked at the entire system and said I didn't have enough return air in the basement. He fixed that. Probably because the first one just switched furnace's the last guy looked at everything.

It was a work comp claim. They had to put something down to release the claim . I'm old, retired and a polite way of saying get lost. Keep it moving so you keep the pain down. This caused my retirement. But at my age I don't need to be benching much more. I'm not carrying 120 lb doors around anymore. That stopped when I blew out my right shoulder. Production factory work didn't do my body any favors. The service work allowed me some less stress except for ladder stuff. Because they had some nice dollies and other equipment for field work that also helped.

I agree... but there have been some physical things that have improved with age.

I once had a hard time breathing through my nose. One side was always plugged, and sometimes both. In the last few years my nose has opened up. I think my sense of taste and ability to smell things has improved. Maybe those things are all related? One of the things I like about being older is that I appreciate everything more. I like that kind of mental attitude. On the other hand... people expect me to be more crotchety, so I can get away with speaking more uncomfortable truths. Or maybe it's just that I don't care as much about what they think and I value those truths more. LOL... And there's always Nsaids for the aches and pains...

 

Stop showing off. I'm sure some of us may take more. I take 5 prescriptions if you count baby aspirin plus a few supplements. Heart and BP, thyroid

 

I take nothing daily and have no prescriptions.

And yes, I am VERY thankful for that!

 

After two failed ablations to prevent AFIB and tachycardia I found a physical method to control them, and don't take any prescription meds. Over the counter painkillers, but not daily. Whenever I see a new doctor for something they look at me sideways when I tell them I don't have any prescriptions. When they find out my wife only takes one due to having her thyroid removed... no high blood pressure, no cholesterol, yadda yadda, they wonder what is going on.

 

I get the same thing. Whenever I get my BP taken, they always seem to ask "do you take BP meds" I dropped a bunch of extra weight a while back and BP has been no issue since. Now, TBH, I do have my share of titanium replacements and a rotator cuff with an unfixable ligament, but so far, knock on wood, nothing that requires meds.

 

I only take a low dose statin for my cholesterol and my doctor had actually discussed taking me off of it since I've lost almost 20 pounds over the past year and started going to the gym and working out. I've opted to stay on it as a precautionary measure. My mom died of a stroke and my older brother just had a stroke in October. I went and had the calcium screening, I think that's what they called it, done to evaluate my risk of a stroke and so far I'm good. I'd like to keep it that way and currently I have a zero copay on the statin so it's costing me nothing to keep taking it.

LOL... I know it's popular to believe that stuff matters, but there are plenty of examples of people doing those things and living long, healthy lives. Most either stop at some point or only indulge in moderation. In my own case, I haven't led a pristine life by any measure, and I wouldn't have done (or be doing) anything differently.

Life with Parkinson's means about 30 pills a day. Too many pill containers; I'm grateful for Deep Brain Stimulation as I dropped my 16 Parkinson's pills down to just six. Parkinson's pills have to be on an empty stomach, a full glass of water, and wait at least 30 minutes before eating. Pain in the butt, but I need to make those meds effective.

I keep a journal of when I got up, when I took my meds, what I had for breakfast, when I took the next dose, lunch... how much exercise (number of steps; minutes of power walking, biking, etc).

End of the day, I mark "X" in the right-hand column. towards the top means a great day; towards the bottom, a not-so-good day.

I write one page per day in a 60-page notebook, so I have a pretty good summary of my progress.

After two months, I have a good snapshot of how I am doing and what foods affect me (sigh, I love pizza, but pasta and cheese aren't good for me).

We are having fun with our new boxing coach. Kick butt, take no prisoners, and if you are not dripping sweat after 60 minutes, you aren't trying hard enough! I do those four times a week: yoga, power walking, and cycling. A good week is when I can put in at least 450 active minutes.
