I’m not going to believe that until the 23s get more mileage on them.

I don't blame you. We have one (maybe two) 2023 engine failures, but it was early in the year. We have just a little over 5000 members with 3rd gens and 46 failures.

It's amazing what one person can do in damages. They no longer work for Toyota. Average cost in parts is 22,000.00...then add in labor. I'm not an extended warranty guy, but if I owned a 2022-2023 (early model) a platinum warranty would be purchased.

One guy as in like an engineer or part lead, yikes, hopefully they have addressed it moving forward, not only the cost in repairs but the damage done to the brand's reputation and lost sales.

Are these people at TFL so useless that they can't crawl under the fucking truck and wiggle the front axles or eyeball if they're turning or not when put into 4WD?

They need to tow it to the dealer "professionals"? Give me a fucking break.

I will say a "machinist" and leave it at that.

Shit happens and Toyota is covering everything and rental vehicles. Some are even out of warranty and being covered.

Kinda like what's going on here in this thread. We don't know what happened and it's just speculation at this point. Sometimes shit just happens. I personally know some Toyota Engineers, won't give any information other than that. They build great products and sometimes decisions are made above their heads. Transmission front mounted fluid coolers come to mind...

I’m sure they don’t want to damage their relationship with Toyota. But, I agree, they are useless.

They are auto review people...not car/truck guys that know how to wrench or really off road for that matter.

Then they probably shouldn’t be doing reviews and tests off-road

I'm guessing there is a protocol at Toyota dealerships that if there is a failure on a new model they have to contact Toyota Corporate. Technician performs inspection/disassembly, sees broken part, tells supervisor, supervisor/manager contacts Corp. And the protocol also says don't tell the customer what happened? Does the dealership say "your truck is broken, we don't know why, Toyota is looking into it"? They could say what broke, we don't know why, Toyota is looking into it. Seems hard to believe that local Toyota employees can keep national security level secrets and TFL doesn't know what happened.

I had an early year 2016 Tacoma that suffered from the "rear diff hum" this is similar to what happened for me, they said not sure why its doing it, rear diff was pulled and was sent to Toyota and new one put in along with my courtesy Platinum warranty from customer service. That is now deemed "normal" by Toyota, lol.

I don't see the bed light button, but maybe it's one of the Aux or light with the A button.

Starting over with a new GMC AT4 Satin Steel Metallic Softopper, Bilstein 5100's @ 1.75 in the front, TSB Rear, 17x8.5 Lvl 8 Guardians, 265/70-17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Scooped, Anytime fog mod, Osram Nightbreakers, LED Interior lights, Debadged, Painted valance, Removed rear head rests, De-flapped, Hidden Hitch installed, Weather Techs, Flyzeye'd A/W/A, Cover Kings.
I'd bet money TFL knows what broke, they're probably waiting on part to come in. They could also be giving Toyota a chance to respond officially and blame a freak accident or take ownership of a problem (which they won't do but as journalists you give them the chance)

Oh they probably knew right away, but that's not enough to content to make a video.
