Tacoma Abuse

So tonight while at my second job (bouncing) some a-hole decided to break into my truck. The good side? The generic alarm built into the truck worked well. They tried to put a screwdriver in the door lock and when they did it aparently shut down the locks. So they broke out the window.

Granted, all they got was my briefcase which had nothing of any value to them unless they wanted to learn how to make an effective sale or create an investment portfolio (I am a corporate instructor for a major fund company). However, they managed to completely piss me off and harm my precious truck. A couple of other guys and I went on a hunt for them mag-lites in hand but didn't find them.

Nothing makes you more angry than someone violating your prize position. On the up-side of things they stole a buddy of mines cell phone so people have been periodically calling and messing with their heads a little.

Just wondering now: If the dealership fixes it, will they put the vin in the replacement glass?

 

That's horrible - sorry about that. Even though they didn't get away with anything, you still feel violated. Its no good.

I don't know about the VIN etching, but I don't see why not. I hope it all gets made right.

Sorry to hear that bud. Has happened to me too. In my case, they took the entire vehicle away, just nine days after purchase. Trashed it and found after a week.

In your case, I would suspect the Alliance. I'm pissed with them too . Apparently you have to display your allegiance to them or they trash you and your property, sometimes. I dont know much about it since I'm in Canada. This is what I've been told.

The insurance company/dealership/rental car company coordination was fun to say the least. But, it went fairly smooth from the impact on me perspective. Just a few unnecessary phone calls.

Maybe we should start a new thread on anti-theft? Something i've always wondered is why the rear sliding window is so flimsy. It seems that with a little force you can just pop it out. Nice if your sinking in a lake somewhere, not so nice for thieves.

 

I agree... i also find it a bit irritating when its open and you can hear it vibrate.

However, as small as the window is the person would have to have a child as an accomplice.

 

Yeah, thats true, but it's just big enough to maybe reach the lock (on a single cab) or anything expensive in the back seat...

...flash backs to when was a kid in my parents truck. Crawling through that window into the camper-shell at highway speeds. Seems kind of scary now.

 

In high school I once climbed into a buddy's truck through the rear sliding window and was sitting there waiting for a ride home when he came out to the parking lot. Hard to believe I used to be that skinny.

 

haha i could probably get through my back window if i really needed to.
