true dat and good point ... I'm thinking they've had time to do failure analysis, including fractography, by now - suspect they know more than they are saying. Best case would be part defect causing the intentional weak link to let go a bit earlier than they'd have liked - that'd potentially manageable by changes to part inspections, for example - but if under-designed, correction will be a considerably longer process and raise questions about robustness of previously distributed trucks.

OK, I get the idea of a mechanical fuse type of feature so there might be some truth behind the PR explanation but it's a word manipulation press release for the masses. Fact is, a 10amp fuse should not burn out when only 3amps are applied. It was a snowy ice covered trail. There was no traction therefore no stress on driveline components. We all saw the video.

That's why the facts of failure are important. Why did the ADD fail? Toyota will let them know and then we'll know. There is no debate on the conditions and their negligible effect.

Every system has it's weak point. Since Toyota intentionally picked this component of the differential system to be the weakest link, then it must be super cheap and easy to replace, right?

This part is apparently designed to fail. The question is why did it fail when it shouldn't have. That's what the engineers will look at.

Correct, fuse should not burn out below the current rating, unless there's a manufacturing error. Same with a mechanical fuse - there's usually a groove or necked-down section with higher stress concentration to ensure it fails there. Simple machining- or heat treatment error can cause it to fail at lower than the designed load. Maybe this will lead to an early recall.

Might have been designed or manufactured under the specs they thought would work.

Hopefully that is the case and there is no large tear down to replace that part.

Or just it was an unknown faulty manufactured part when installed. More incidents of this would show an engineering issue of course.

The Pro/TH/Max have larger front differentials but is the new aluminum tailshaft (where the ADD is mounted) and the same ADD used on all of the models? The Las Vegas Pro demo ran the truck pretty hard and I assume the org that is doing the TH videos are working that truck pretty hard. A lot more Tq on those trucks and no problems so far.

    Yeah.
Or nobody told the engineer that designs it that they have moved on from minivan engines and to get ready for some real torque.

I'd love to know that Toyota would be this concerned if my truck ever breaks down.

It’s been around a week and the truck still isn’t repaired so it can’t be too easy of a fix.

Well the current Bronco and Wrangler both have FADs and neither of them of them break on slightly slippery rocks.

Shortage of parts or some component inside the fob. There are only a few of the Toyotas this is an issue with but I don’t remember which ones.

Toyota does owe me a second fob and I will get one at some point.

I do believe that the Tacoma was coming with too… maybe @Visa_Declined can answer that one.
