The front camera can be used for parking, or while driving, more specifically when off-roading when you can't see what's directly in front of you. Typically when you buy the "Anytime Front Camera" kit, it comes with just about everything you need. If you buy from TrailGrid Pro they will even solder everything for you for $30 so it will be plug and play when it arrives. There are some YouTube videos that show the install process. I like this one https://youtu.be/SJ4mhopxuPY?si=EWMMKXIxm6aV3PAM

I mainly use mine for off roading and parking obnoxiously close if not over lowered cars

Thanks for a great detailed reply with the video. I’m sold! Will be buying for sure!

I’m smart enough to know I will hire someone to install it though. 20 years ago I’d do it myself.

I just had the exact same experience! I’m trying to see what Tacoma Lifestyle can do since that’s where I ordered it from. The image can only be "mirrored", not "flipped". Bummer.

It's says that you can change the viewing angle by adjusting the camera lens itself. Have you tried to see if the lens will spin 180 degrees to invert the image?

Keep us updated on the install. I just bought a 2019 and this is one of the first mods I want to do. The hood is way bigger than my 1st gen.

O M G !!:facepalm:I just tried rotating it and it DOES turn! I'm confident this will work, although I do prefer the sleek OEM look of the Natika camera. Thank YOU!

Yeah I had a 2002 Gen 1. This install has been pretty straight forward. I soldered the wires, connected the harnesses, and ran the wires through the firewall and into the engine bay. It's not difficult, just need to be patient. Now I just need to mount the camera bracket to my TRD Pro Grille and modify the grille a bit to install the camera.

I was told by Anytime that you ONLY cut that wire if your head unit displays in High Definition. He also mentioned that if you cut it and your head unit is not HD, you won't get any picture. I'm using the stock JBL head unit in my 2020 and did not cut it. Everything works fine. I think if you have a head unit that displays HD like the Sony XAV-9500ES, you would cut it.

The one on the left is the newer version, you only cut one wire, do not cut any other wires, the wire to flip the image horizontally only, for vertical flip, you physically twist the camera inside the socket/housing 180°.

Do you wire these 'HD' version the same as the 'Premium' version, or the same as the 'Standard' version?

I’ve ordered the premium camera setup it’s ok in the daytime but at night it’s very pixelated. With the headlights being on. I wouldn’t know what the original one would be like. And I would have liked the original style better than the big nipple style. Maybe it views better not sure.

In the instructions I have, it shows a wiring difference for 'premium' vs 'standard' camera - you have the 'HD' version (same as me and the OP in this thread) - which wiring did you install, premium, or standard?

( Also, for additional context, for my 'HD' camera the wire color from the RCA cable is green, not red, as is shown in the instructions)

I also bought the prem from them a few months ago. I got the left version. I don't think the quality matters as much because of the OEM headunit. I don't like how big the new camera is, but oh well.

Same boat here, I had the premium wired it all up and the rear cam would not work....I found a short in the rca circuit for the rear cam.
R4T replaced the kit and not it has that goofy looking HD cam.

Pretty sure I need to mount it horizontally, so glad it rotates
***I don't want to break it, how much can it turn?

***Also which wiring do you follow for the HD cam....the premium or standard??

If you look at, and feel, the cable coming from the camera housing, the cable actually moves around with the camera as you swivel it, so i would guess that it can turn any which way you want, as long as the cable can spin/give with the turn.

    'Premium' wiring method.
