Official "Slimcubby" HID Kit Install DIY

Great write up!!! Gonna install my HIDs today after i make the wife happy putting up the Christmas stuff up.My DDM HIDs are an early x-mas present to myself. I tell everyone I see w/a taco about this web site.ITS WONDERFUL!!!!

 

Has anyone felt the need to put foam behind the ballast?

I secured mine using sheet metal screws and have had one go bad already. I don't know what the inside of the ballast looks like but some shock absorption might be a good idea.

I'm going to pull them off tomorrow and put a small pad behind each one. If anything, it'll give me piece of mind.

 

Just installed my 6K hi/lo kit from DDM and the ballast does not have any sort of ears to bolt or screw the ballast to the truck.
THX for the write up as my kit didn't have instructions which didn't matter but I was confused about the kit only using one of the headlight connections. thought I had missed something until I read this! LOL

 

Im going to attempt these today! Wish me luck and thanks for.DIY write up!

hi im new here, and im just wondering if your DTRL's still work or did you have to change anything. also where did you get this kit?

 

The DTRL's should not be affected on the Taco's. Also, the kit was purchased through one of my Group Buys that I hold on here. If you'd like to buy a kit during the non group buy period you can PM me and I will hook you up. Otherwise you can wait for my next group buy which will be starting on March 1st.

 

Passenger side won't fire up...already swapped ballasts, swapped bulbs to the other side and checked all wires. Help!!!!!!

The only thing I can think of that there is no power getting to the passenger side ballast?

***fixed-I'm an r-tard and wasn't grounding the passenger side - derp!

 

So everyone is running these without projectors? Anyone have head on night pics?

 

That cutoff does not look so great from the pictures, looks like it has way to much glare.

if you flip the center of the boot inside out it fits perfect

 

Hey CableTec, I have the same bulbs and I had to swap some wires in my harness to get the bulbs to work at all on Low, and they just go blank when they're on hi. That doesn't really bother me though because I have HID's in my fog lights. Just curious what I did wrong.

 

How far should the head lights be aimed down? How can you make sure both sides are perfectly even when aiming?

 

How well do those industrial strength velcro hold? Does your shake around at all cabletec? I have velcro things in the past and they hold but can move around. Also if you are going off roading , what are the chances the ballast will fall off the velcro when hitting a lot of bumpy roads?

 

I personally use zip ties. You won't ever worry about offroading and the ballasts coming loose. Just my .02

 

Yep, thats what I was thinking too. Just saw the velcro in the DIY and wondered how well that held up in rough conditions. Where are some good places to mount with zip ties? Just look in there and find a spot that works best?

 

Anyone have a video for the install? That'd be cool! OR just a tutorial on the boot thing, I'm confused on that part.

I cut my boot so it fits over my ddm tuning kit. But I think I screwed up bc now Im always getting moisture in them...
Does the boot have to be tight around the bulb?
