Just following up. The dealership confirmed that the Tcase needs a new seal. I’m squeaking in just before my warranty expires so here’s hoping this doesn’t cost anything.

This truck has seen a significant amount of trails and rough roads, but has not been abused or driven improperly.

Mine is like a neurotic dog. You look at it wrong, it pees everywhere

Lol it's a truck. Drives like one. Tune helped big time and the only "fix" my Tacoma has needed.

Dumped a 2022 Silverado for this truck because the transmission whined worse than Karen and the 5.3 had awful valvetrain noise in less than 20k miles.

Had my thermostat replaced under warranty on my ‘21 this week at just under 28K miles. The engine could idle forever and never reach operating temp, only the first hash mark and lukewarm heat until I started actually driving and getting the rpms up over 2K. Thermo was stuck open, no codes. Other than that, it’s been trouble free for 3 1/2 years.

    Check build thread!
84k miles on my 2021. Only thing I've replaced was the fan clutch- and I'm pretty sure I had to do that because it was underwater . Flooded the interior more than a few times and we just dry her out and keep on rollin.

I’m ready to get roasted ‘cross the coals for this one.

Now I know this doesn’t make sense logically nor mechanically, but I’ma gonna say it anyways…what I have noticed in most of these types of ICE failures is the majority of heads that are having issues are saying they are “babying” the drivetrain, most particularly, the motor. “I’ve been so careful with it…”

The fella who posted his 300,000 Taco thread appears to drive it hard. Not too long ago, there was a post of a 700,000 3rd Gen. Now that motor had to have been driven extremely hard. And this dude, man, talk about changing the oil every 3,000 miles!!! Yes, it’s my fave 3rd Gem video(s).

102k on my 2019. Only thing that has shit the bed were the secondary cats and the crank shaft position sensor. Other than that I've already replaced most of what is on the truck.

Another follow up: Tcase seal had to be replaced. It was covered under warranty with an over $800 charge to Toyota, so it probably would have been close to double that for the poor schmuck who is out of warranty.

Not super happy about this on a 2019 with 26,500 mi.

    How's 3G reliability?

2017 TRDOR DCSB: 139K = only needed lube, plugs, fluids, filters, brake pads, tires, and lamps thus far. That includes trans filter/gasket, of course. Replaced front discs at 120 and doing the drums this weekend. New shocks, Bilstein 6100/5100 at 100K and rear Icon leafs at 120K... brakes didn't really need it and the springs were for lift. Shocks would've definitely needed replacement before 120K... they were fried due to lots of gravel and farm road miles. On Nitto Ridge Grappler 265/75/16 since 30K... great tires, replaced every 50K since.

Bottom line = Nothing but consumables and fluids.

It's time for a belt and pulleys! And another 100K miles. It'll outlive me for sure.

Bought new in 2017 75,000 kms (46,500 miles). So far so good, only factory recall work has been needed eg. third brake light, frame treatment, blower motor, block heater etc.

Engine oil changes, one air filter, a few cabin air filters and one set of tires that is it for maintenance. Still on the original battery, brakes etc.

I had these exact three things done by the dealer before hitting 10k miles. Around 15k miles now and no issues since. I had an Autozone AGM battery go bad around 1 year, but that's about it. I am at low mileage though, so the sample size is small. Also a 2018 Sport with MT.

    I’ve got 65k miles now.

Just replaced my OEM battery this winter. Was still turning over just fine but was reading 12.3V so I replaced it.

My first OEM part failure actually happened yesterday :)

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/first-oem-part-to-fail.827061/page-3

I’ve asked a lot of 3G owners about their trucks over the years and none of them had any mechanical issues or brake downs.

Went to price out a job yesterday and customer had a 2019 sport. I’ve asked if she had any issues and besides the battery she said no.

Reading this forum will make you believe 3G is absolute garbage. After owning my truck for 6 years, abusing it and talking to a lot of 3G owners, I’m convinced it’s a rock solid machine.

This is great stuff ! I also have an 18 and just replaced my battery a couple months ago . Still started but 5 years is about it and I don’t like auto drama . My truck has been trouble free and 3 other people I know with 17-19 Tacomas have had no problems whatsoever , but every time I spend a day on this forum I’m convinced it’s gonna grenade any second . I love my truck and hope to keep it for years . I know there have been people with various issues but I think overall these trucks are better than most .

I have 71K on my 2019 OR and have had no issues and same battery. I’m thinking next winter it may need to be replaced. But I agree these things are solid and I’m happy to own one.
