My dad’s truck. He tells me he recently replaced the battery. Starter turns it over but it won’t start. Tried about 4 times and decided it was time to be more methodical. He say he last drove it a couple of days ago.

    suggestions to avoid a tow?

Maybe this is the behavior without a key w immobilizer? I’ll hunt. My ‘05 doesn’t have one nor my ‘02 Tundra but his ‘06 has more tech.

05-15 Us spec v6 trucks have an immobilizer, the 4 cyl trucks do not.

The immobilizer light should not be flashing with the key on, if it is then the immobilizer is active and the engine will not start.

That’s third gen. The truck here is an ‘06. I don’t know it well. But I think the RAV4 has a key w immobilizer. And I think maybe my dad has keys randomly hidden in drawers. So f it I think. Maybe the Taco does have an immobilizer.

he likes to swim with just a door key for these “beach” cars.

Thanks. I was trying to figure out where to look. The key for sure is a blank. Makes total sense. Case solved. Thanks!

Yeah, seen 2016 in your profile. My fault.
I was tagged, didn't see we were talking about a 2nd Gen.

Anyways. 2nd Gen does have it.
    See Dm93 post.

Thanks so much guys. My dad told me where he hides the non decoy keys. Here is a picture of what I’m dealing with in case you’re wondering how I could get confused.

I just took the leaf. Emasculating will be the theme of this trip to the grocery store.

Might need to have the throttle body cleaned. Has he tried holding the pedal down slightly while cranking?

After disconnecting a battery the learned throttle plate position gets forgotten. Carbon in the throttle bore can inhibit airflow and it won't start
