I kind of agree except that the walls are not moving just the vanity. The back of the vanity is an exterior wall and shows no signs of damage or movement.

I will investigate further this weekend.

Not uncommon for wood to move. Depending on type, humidity, etc. Also if water from tub, shower, or even Ptrap leaked and swelled the wood and shrunk back after drying. Also might not have noticed it until the sealant cracked

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
My Lowes keeps stacks of it outside, uncovered.
I have a similar issue with my eero system. Everything in the house will connect fine except for two windows based laptops. I even got a separate router for the laptops and it works for one of them. The other I end up hot-spotting from my phone.

Is there an update you can throw at the laptop's wifi card?

Many laptops, it's easier to replace the WiFi card than it is to update it.

Winter came and went; wasn't as productive as I wanted to be but got a fair amount done, I guess.

I was able to construct the partition wall, insulate, paint (need to do touch ups... but it's a shop so maybe not), got some new machines moved-in, and constructed table frames. I still need a 5x5 sheet of baltic for my outfeed table which I'll get this week.
    IMG_0787.HEIC.jpg

Still a ways to go but at least the shop is functional at the moment. Easy enough to just chip away at organization and whatnot when I have so many cabinet projects coming up. There's a stack of 20 sets of drawer slides sitting on the miter station waiting to get used in the shop. The goal of winter was to just make it usable as quickly as possible and move forward.

Beginning the last room of the house (outside of the kitchen and bathrooms) which is our den. Very excited for this project. Couple Q's:

    1. Would you center this stair, extend it to cover the whole sunken area, or keep it where it lays? Infer that the stair is being rebuilt no matter what; I have a 2x12 to build a formal stringer. The stairs come off the kitchen. There will be a rail base with a nosing from wall to wall marking the transition from tile to hardwood stairs. If we just rebuild the stair where it's at or center it it'll get a railing. If we extend it to the wall it'll be a full walk-down with no railing. I like the idea of extending it, but my only gripe would be that it gives the option to walk into furniture and also cuts off our ability to have a rolling cart or something else staged in the kitchen (which is fairly small). We might need the breakup of a railing.
    IMG_0785.HEIC.jpg

    2. The adjacent wall is begging for a built-in. There's a pocket door in the middle of it with ample space to support a large bookcase unit (14' long wall). Would you do a wooden top to separate the bottom and top units (right) or would you go all monochrome (left)?

    Shop looks great!
#1.... What goes in that corner by the stairs? TV? You'll be losing floor space if you extend the stairs.
#2.... If you are placing against the wall build four separate sections and use a separate base

For HVAC capacitors are some brands better than others? Seems most come from China. I need an 80/10 MFD in either 370 or 440 for a Lennox XC16-060.

I can order the Lennox brand for around $75 or Amazon has a TradePro brand for $49. Amazon one has pretty good reviews. :notsure:

In my experience generally generic works just as well as “branded” ones. I tend to use the ones from Ace Hardware and keep 1 on hand for each of my properties they run between $25-40 at ace and they usually keep a good stock in the spring. Be sure to de energize the system and discharge the capacitor properly before working on it. It can give you a mighty spark if you don’t.

As as side note thanks for the reminder to verify my rental’s stock.

All we use at work are Supco/GE no issues. Me personally I would stay away from Amazon for this type of stuff.

    Dayton is good as well......

To the left? It’s a built-in book shelf that is original to the house, so basically nothing can go over there. Ends very quickly too right after the book shelves. I’m going to convert it into a small pantry with folding pocket doors. I think the listing photos do a better job showing the room than what I can take a picture of:
    IMG_0788.jpg

    IMG_0789.jpg

and yeah the built-in unit will actually be 8 pieces (2 lowers and 2 uppers / side) with a topper separating upper/lower. After a while you learn to break it up and save your back lol.

    1. my vote is stairs all the way across the space, unless you really have a good use for that spot the chair is at in the realtor picture-- otherwise, the entire width seems better suited as a walkway--narrowing the walkway means that corner is destined to be a catch-all.

    2. i think it depends on how you intend to use the space. the way i envision it, a countertop middle lends itself best to entertaining functions/glasses/liquid stowage--where the counters purpose is as a partitioned dry bar, where a standard built-in without counters tends to better lend itself as a 100% knick-knack showcase.

    .
... About 4 years ago I was in the market for a new house, looked at over 50 new homes from different builders and was not impressed with DRH.

Ended up with a 4 sided brick Lennar home and I would rate it a B. I have built several homes on my own and I fixed the small things that Lennar

    missed or did incorrectly.

I was amazed at the low quality of a lot of the builders in general. I had my issues with Lennar and I had them fix the big issues and I fixed the

    smaller issues.

Overall, the experience with Lennar was not too bad, and they were responsive to the problems.

Lennar even had the painter come in 12 months later and caulk the cracks and touch up the paint .... I did this myself after I saw a painter put a can of paint on the carpet with no drop cloth.

If you have an electric motor shop nearby get one from them, they will use a brand they trust.
Another choice is a plumbing supply house that serves HVAC contractors, for the same reason.
