I know. I'm just letting OP know that more aggressive yields louder results (in general). Didn't say they're unbearable, just that they make noise.

My Duratracs definitely have a noticeable noise level on the highway. A bit of music cures it admirably.

For my use, I accept the noise for the increased off road performance and reliability (10 ply equivalent).

There may be some newer "hybrid" rubber where the center patch that contacts the pavement most of the time is more continuous, leading to less noise, but with a blockier tread to either side that looks "mean".

That might fit the bill for what the OP is looking for.

Quiet for an AT tire on my Expedition. I’ve had Toyo Open Country AT2s and Hankook Dynapros on it and the Rubitreks are quieter.

I’ve got the BFG’s on mine at the moment. They have not let me down in snow, dirt trails, and recently the clay-ish mud on my property. To be honest they tore the shit out of my trails around my property and I need to take a tractor back when the ground dries up to repair my trails.

( it was fun though )

No offense OP, but you have a lot to learn. Getting aggressive tires solely for looks is not a good idea. Tire selection should be driven by function, not looks.

There are significant downsides and trade-offs associated with tire “aggression.” All factors being equal, the more aggressive a tire, the…
    • Higher rolling resistance, fewer MPGs
    • Heavier, less acceleration and fewer MPGs
    • Harsher ride
    • Louder
    • Wear faster
    • Worse in wet
    • Increased braking distance on pavement
    • Worse handling on pavement
These are all real and you will notice them. Aggressive AT tires are meant to increase traction off road at the expense of pretty much every other category. If you really think you need an AT, then I strongly suggest a milder option to reduce the downsides as much as possible. Look into:
    • BFG Trail Terrain
    • Cooper Road and Trail
    • Nitto Nomad Grappler
    • Vredestein Pinza AT
    • Nokian Outpost APT
    • General Grabber APT
    • Kumho AT52
    • Falken Wildpeak AT Trail
    • Bridgestone AT Revo 3
    • Firestone AT2

Also stick to SL and P rated tires. Don’t go E rated.

IMG_7485.jpg My BFG KO2s perform great on road and off road so far with little over 300 miles on them. They don’t make much noise other than the occasional rock pebble getting stuck between the treads and hearing chatter as it rolls. i have 265/75/16 size on stock SR5 wheels. The balancing of the tire took two tries at first and used a lot of weight, but my stock highway tires used lots of weights on the wheel as well so i think it’s just the wheel itself.. at $250 a pop and getting 5 i spent around $1369 with tax from Amazon.

BFG's are still good they are just not what they used to be. I was a die hard BFG guy for decades. But something changed when they switch from BFG "All Terrains" to BFG "KO2's". The All Terrains used to last forever. my KO2's and KM2's lasted MAYBE 30,000 miles at best. It's like they use softer rubber or something now???

Do I have to worry about rubbing if I go 265/70/r17? Do you know how much this size of tire will affect the speedometer reading? How about the mpg, will it help or will it lower the mpg?

Stock wheels you won’t rub. If you have wheels with about 4mm of offset or less like aftermarket wheels then you will hit mud flaps on turns or fenders if you have wide aftermarket wheels like 8”+ combined with negative offset.

Mpg will probably be about the same, maybe a bit worse on windy or hilly days where the truck works a bit harder because the tires will tax it more in those conditions. It isn’t much difference though.

I really like my Wildpeaks, but preferred my Duratracs for my needs. Yes, they are a tad louder, but the off road performance was closest to a Mud Terrain tire, with much, much better on road characteristics. Good in the rain, great in the snow, and looks that kill.

Only wish Duratracs came in my size tire, as I would buy them next time around. I might even change my tire size to a closer size Duratrac.

With a 0 offset or less generally there's no rubbing concerns if you have stock flaps it might hit that a little bit. It can easily be trimmed or swap to a low pro flap like rokblokz.
Mpg will take a hit with any AT over stock how much will be determined by tread pattern and weight. Sticking to an SL or P load will keep the tire as light as possible and retain alot more ride quality. The difference won't be drastic but expect to see a small change.

I’ve ran a set of Wildpeaks on my 2017 sport and then put a set of Rubitreks on it before I sold it. My 2021 Pro now has Rubitreks on it and they’re great. I got mine through Simple Tire with a coupon code back around Black Friday for like $600, no lie. Great tires

Like he said in the above post. Weight is the biggest factor that affects MPG. I forget the exact ratio, but it's something like for each pound you add to your tires it equals about the same as adding 12 pounds of weight in your truck. Right now, each of my wheels and tires weighs around 90lbs. one trade off about the Amp OffRoad tires is that they are 8 Ply and tread is a little deeper than most others which makes them tough and last long, but they are on the heavier side weight wise.

Thank you. I am taking Wildpeak AT3 and Rubitrek A/T's into consideration.

Different topic, why I am seeing different grille on other Tacoma's. My 3rd gen grille (see thumbnail) is the same as the grille on your truck while the other 3rd gens I am seeing has different grille's with the word Toyota and some have the Toyota Emblem.

I had Nitto Terra Grapplers on my 2nd gen Sport. They aren't as aggressive as the ridge Grapplers. They are pretty quiet.
265-70 r17s were about $165 on Amazon in 2021, prolly went up a bit.
I'm still on original tires on my 2022 Sport.
