My wife signed up our dog for a Corgi race at a hockey game tonight. I'm expecting equal parts absolutely chaos and fun. :D

That's on someone else to do. I'm going to have my hands full being on the receiving end of the dog pile.

That adds to the spectical:rofl: kinda like when they have the beverage can race. That race is usually between the 2nd and 3rd period you will be fine. If you do slop you can have an excuse. Last year my wife and I were on the kiss cam on our 45th anniversary.

Popping in for my semi monthly annually carnage post. Today we find a stick cylinder off a 1950-1960 excavator. The brass/copper wear ring failed catastrophically. Never mind the seals turning into hydraulic nuggets.

I have poor dirt in my yard, so a few years ago I overseeded with Clover.
Back in late January, I overseeded again with Clover. New Clover is up and now even the Fescue is growing! I guess the Clover is putting enough Nitrogen into the soil to make the dirt a bit better.
Down here in SC, you can choose to have a weed for a yard (Zoysia or Bermuda) or you can choose Fescue and water every day from May-September. Fescue yards will burn up with no water and Bermuda yards are brown from October to April.
So, I went against the grain and planted a legume (Clover) that fertilizes itself to a point. Here's a pic of my Clover yard from last summer.

My yard is virtually indestructible it seems.
It never stops growing even in the driest years.

It isn't even "real grass" probably, more like whatever grows in farm fields and has been mowed for the last 60 or so years.

I have never encouraged it with seed or fertilizer -- except whatever is provided by guests.

My yard back in WV was like that. Always green and only needed to cut it. This house was built in 2019 and when I bought it, my "yard" was red clay barren of even one blade of grass. I hope to get it to the point where it requires nothing except mowing. But for now, i am working on it!

I'm surprised more people around you don't do a Rye overseed when you get that first cold spell of nights in the 50's in October or whenever. When you say your soil quality is poor, it's clay and doesn't allow water to penetrate? Spiker attachment behind the riding mower with cinder blocks on it would change that. You want nitrogen to get deep? Gotta open up that top layer and give it a chance.
