You lost me here. If my new Tacoma is reliable and dependable I will drive it for 3-4 years. If its not it will be gone within days of me determining it's not going to be reliable. So yea in my use case 300,000 miles longevity means nothing.

    Good grief.
The reason Toyotas (in general) and Toyota trucks (specifically) hold their value over a very long period of time is due to the fact they are reliable. Yesterday. Today. And tomorrow.
The brand is like no other in existence.
If not for this incredible track record, I wouldn't have garages full of old Toyotas 4X4s. Going all the way back to the 1960s.

If the new Taco is only going to be "good" for 60K miles, then this current crop of owners is going to be in for a rude awakening when they move on from their vehicles. Depreciation (and lease costs) are a direct function of the market's perception of a vehicle's lifespan. Short-lived vehicles either must sell for less or cost more to own. Historically, Toyotas do neither of those two things.

The thing is that literally nobody is saying that the 24 will only be good for 60k miles except those who deeply want that to be true to justify their decision to not buy it

Who said it was only "good" for 60k? I said for me personally I need it to be reliable for that many miles because I won't own it longer than that. That doesn't mean that the next owner won't drive it for 20 more years and I hope they do it trouble free! Your not wrong, it just doesn't apply to me.

This is one of the craziest things I've read on here. 3-4 years is not owning a car, it's renting one. This is why the automakers can get away with murder these days. Different breed of buyers.

I agree and wish they would have spent resources elsewhere. But, there a many packages without it. It isn't mandated.

What murder? Toyota just put out an excellent highly praised new Tacoma. What exactly is the problem? Why do you care when I buy a new car?

If I had a choice for a free upgrade to either a power tailgate or just a balanced and dampened tailgate gas assist rod(s), I would choose the latter. It's ridiculous that if you don't hand hold it on the way down it can just free-fall and slam down. Hatchbacks with struts have been around for 40 years

No way I could afford a new Tacoma at 19. YouTube had not been invented yet.

It's really no issue with me whatsoever. If a guy wants to swap out vehicles every year or every 50k miles and has the money to do so OR doesn't mind living in infinite debt then that's what he should do. It makes me no difference at all, it's their business!
RideTime must like the new car smell a lot more than I do whereas when I find something I like, I simply stick with it!
    Like I've said, I'm not a car/truck lover.
My 300k mile Ranger was high on miles and low on tech. Simply put, it gets me from point-A to point-B dependably with very few issues and no payments for the last 24 years. I'm not one to care at all whether someone else going down the road is checking out my new Tacoma or my old Ford Ranger. To me a vehicle is more of a tool. I want it to get me where I want to go, and back again and be able to handle any job I need it to do whether thats getting me to work, running for groceries, or hauling 4 deer out of the field.
( which the Ranger has done!)
In short, I use my vehicles and I take care of them so that they will give me years of dependable service. An then one day when I felt it was time to upgrade my truck/tool, I went and dropped the cash on the salesman's desk and drove off in a brand new 2024 Tacoma. No payments to look forward to.
And the Ranger isn't going anywhere, I'll still use it to haul deer or pull my John boat while I go on road trips in a little more comfort and style in the Tacoma.

No, it’s not sarcasm. The only people who think this will only be good for 60k are those that WANT that to be true because it satisfies their ego
