So apparently the welding recall led to them finding that my dad's 2023 Off Road rear differential is faulty and needs replacement. No in depth details yet so, they just hold him " we will order some parts and let you know "

There was always sound in the back as if fluid in differential was low, like sound you get on high milage vehicles on highway.

Thinking to dump the truck and maybe get either SR5 or something else, who knows what else is wrong with it. Besides I don't really trust them to know what they are doing.

    Truck info :

    2023 Off Road
    Bought brand new
    Currently at 10K miles

Why don't you trust them? Can you take it somewhere else?

They don't even rotate tires, last few times we put lil sticker on one of the tires and find out nothing was swapped. 3 visits . They also take 2 hours for oil change, I would never trust them with something serious like this.

You still living at home? Where is your Dad? I am 60yo and can speak for myself. Actually, if my children spoke for me I would kick their asses. I'm old, not stupid.

I had a handful of first year TSBs to address and then my truck has been great. Even though I bought the first year of the 3rd Gens and your dad has the last year of the 3rd Gens, that’s what a warranty is for. BTW, a leaking rear end was one of my first year TSBs.

I actually prefer a dealer not rotate my tires. I watch tread wear myself and will rotate on my schedule. This way I know the lug nuts are seated properly and torqued to specs.

Dealer touched my 2021 SR5 once. Took it in for an oil change they wouldn't do it because it wasn't at 10,000 miles.
I insisted the 'free' oil changes were mine to use whenever I wanted but all they would do was rotate the tires.

I bailed and took it to an independent shop that only works on Toyota automobiles. Have continued and will continue
to let those folks wrench on my truck.

How are they already doing the recall ? The notice hasn’t even come in yet. Neither has the fix

I’ll start the bidding at $5 bucks, that’s the usual for a truck being “dumped”…

How many miles on the vehicle? Original owner?

Not the recall, he brought the truck in for 10K free service, and they told him that differential has issues. Ive driven his truck and I too hear the humming sound from it on 50-60 mph.

Like my 160K 2003 4runner used to make that sound because diff fluid was low probably, but this truck is under 10K, we got it like in 2023 Sep or something brand new from dealership.. and we have not even gone off road yet, just some camping.

Also , the interior is sketchy, like the covering on gearing knob was bit off, like quality issues you know? but its a pick up so whatever. Then this problem showed up ,so who knows what else the factory QC passed without checking the truck..

This is a very isolated case and I assume the 10k service was the second oil change. If this humming was evident and similar to the sound a “high mileage vehicle” would produce why would y’all keep it on the road and not take it in immediately? 10k miles on a dry diff is impressive if it didn’t fry before hand. Let them fix it, I’ve towed a trailer from early on in my 2023 ownership. No humming sound, 14,500 miles and it’s all good.

Yeah, first oil change he did it himself because 5K service does not include it, so 10K is first time we brought the truck in dealership since the day we picked it up from them. They will prob give more details and see what is wrong with it.

    My question was…

Why if you heard this noise why would he or you not take it in?
