Started having an odd squeak from the right rear wheel occasionally. Finally had some time to dig into it this weekend and low and behold my rear shoe looks like it's been dragging for awhile.
Truck was in for a service 3 about 2300km ago which includes a brake inspection and adjustment from what I recall. So it seems odd to find this so quick after a major service. I saw no signs of seized components lots of life everywhere else on the shoes besides the one spot. Backed off the adjuster so it would stop dragging for now.

So my question is has anyone seen shoes stick and seize to cause wear like this? Planning on having a discussion with the dealer this week.

My trust was gone with the dealer when my driver side axle seal went.. I don’t think they ever pull the tires and check the rear brakes. I’d go in for all the service levels and all when I was under warranty

Those drum shoes and drum hats look toast. Replace them.

I had the exact opposite experience with my drums and the dealer. Took it in for minor squealing at low parking lot speeds (sides of shoes rubbing on contact points). Basically told them hose it down with brake cleaner and lube the contact points.

The "tech" if you want to call them that sanded the shoes, turned the drums and then neglected to properly adjust the star wheel.

They brought my truck to me at the end of the day several hours late. Immediately upon the first brake pedal press the pedal went straight to the floor.

They had another tech redo the entire job and bleed the brakes the following day.

Complete waste of drum shoe and drum hat material to sand and turn them for a truck with 8k miles and a minor contact point squeal.

    Never went back after that.

At 28k miles they're still squealing like a pig. I don't have the time to mess with it, so I'll probably find an independent shop.

Agreed. Toasted like burnt bagels. Swap it all out.

This is unfortunately not the first mishap but likely to be the last. I used to do all of my own wrenching but warranty has me going back for service but at this point the lack of trust is to damn high.

That's a given more so looking for other potential till causes as there is no notable problems once the adjustment was backed off.

They should replace all of it at their cost unless they want to pull the wear item nonsense.

New oem drums and shoes are probably around $300. I'd probably just do the work myself vs taking it back, but it's up to you.

I'm aiming for parts replaced at no charge for bolth sides and I'll do the work if there's time if not I have a specialty shop that I trust with the work.
