I added a 4x one to relentless bumper. You are custom fabricating it to the bumper so there will be no issues, just weld and cut as you go. Measure twice cut once.

I guess I'm just concerned with there being enough room/clearance on the bumper to weld the brackets to the bumper.

What's your overall impression of the 4X? Any issues with the latch not staying closed? I know that's an issue on some swing outs

Gotcha, I guess without seeing the SOS in person I couldn't comment. There isn't anything you can't overcome with a little fabrication and creative mind though I'm sure. The latch system is good, here's a few pics on a relentless bumper I did for a friend. Had to had a few extra plates in and built the tire holder beefier due to extending it out farther to allow the cap window to open. FWIW, a used spool of welding wire works great for a spare tire template LOL.

Did you relocate your backup camera?

this wasn’t my truck but no we didn’t. I’ve had a swing out on my personal truck for almost 12 years and the backup camera has been useless as well. The good thing is with these heavy bumpers you don’t really need a camera you just backup until you feel a crunch lol.

anyone know how coating fits into the picture?

I have a warfab swingout addition I’m looking to put onto a Phantom, and it has “tabs” to hold the spindle

I assume that means grinding the bumper bare to weld that on.

what about PC or paint, what does one do there? Take the whole swingout to PC shop to be powder coated first, and then grinded/welded/rattle canned at the connection?

Grind it for welds and rattle can for paint

    got it.
Hopefully PC would be possible as an alternative

Warfab phantom came from them as powder coated what appears to be semi gloss

so that makes me wonder if PC on the swingout to match would be a good idea

not to mention the other benefits of it
    -no huge time to prep
-may not be as dependent on weather
    -would match appearance
-simple turnaround; drop off at a PC place, they blast and coat
-not breathing a ton of fumes and overspray dealing with etch primer, base paint, clear

I guess depends where it’s done; paint would be more PITA living in an apartment or something compared to house with garage and yard(s)

let alone if anyone is painting on truck and masking that to do a whole swingout

hopefully by now there are paints or methods that can “touch up” a weld area if PC parts have been ground down to weld

maybe im misreading In that PC would be fine, and just paint the welds when that’s done

For me atleast, it's cheaper/easier to just rattle can something I plan to bash on rocks. Makes touch ups a lot simpler. Bumpers, skids, slider, etc...
