My AC has been acting up lately. It works normal sometimes. But most of the time, it only blows cold air on High... If I try to switch the control to Medium High, Medium Low or Low, it doesn't work at all. It blows a little bit of air, but nothing cold or with any force.

It's starting to get hot here in SoCal, and my lady doesn't like it when I'm blasting that AC on High all the time... Hey, I'm not gonna suffer, just because she's getting too cold. LOL

Is there a HVAC filter that may be clogged up? Or is this something more related to a malfunctioning switch? Someone at my work said it might be something called a climate control unit that is going bad...

    I drive a 2005 PreRunner Double Cab 4.0Lit V6.

Thanks Whippersnapper02. That was quick... Is that Blower Motor Resistor easy to change out. And if so, where is it?

NelsonTacoma, is that a picture of your truck? Nice Truck! I have the exact same truck, same color, same wheels, same everything...

I'm wondering if it's better to get that resistor from the Toyota dealer, or from an AutoZone? I know any auto parts store will be way cheaper, but I've always tried to use genuine Toyota parts. And, for anything electrical, that might be the wise choice.

I am having the same problem with my Tacoma..the a/c will only blow on high. We have replaced the resistor the wire harness and connector several times and this last time we changed it out nothing happened. It still only blows on high. Could there be something else causing this? Please help!!

None to speak of, except I installed slightly heavier rear leaf springs than come stock.
Hi: The AC on my 1999 Tacoma was only working on low. After my mechanic said the control head (where the switch is) would need to be replaced for about $350, I balked at the cost. I researched the problem and found this forum which suggested the problem might be related to the resistor, which is real easy to access. I removed mine and discovered that it was dirty with a clump of dust, hair and such on the metal parts between the mounting bracket and the ceramic block. It also had a bit of corrosion, but was not broken and didn't appear to be heat damaged. I cleaned it up, reinstalled it and now my AC works on all blower settings. Thanks for the NO COST fix.

Find someone nearby to try a swap of AC control panel. If that fixes it then thank them and get yourself a replacement either used or new. Takes a minute or two to pop it out and unplug/replug.

I count myself lucky that a dirty resistor appears to have been the problem. Another alternative is the switch in your control panel, which will require disassembly of the dash where it it located to get at it. There are U tube videos on how to do that. When I was researching the problem, I found Ebay sellers with the blower switch <$20. Steve
