I did the hose clamp ADD disable with Warn manual hubs on my 2nd Gen 4Runner and never had any issues. I feel it actually made me a better off road driver because I really needed to plan ahead. Like most new things though, we have traded reliability for comfort and convenience.

I used my 2nd Gen pretty hard for work in forestry with countless deep snow adventures spinning wheels at a much higher rate of speed than tfl’s video. Mechanical items will break its just very unfortunate (for Toyota) that it happened to the guys at tfl. I wouldn’t let this sway me from a new Tacoma, I’d say it’s a fluke.

That is an interesting video. I think, based on the information on the Kentucky plant (builds the Camry sedan, Lexus ES sedan, and RAV4 Hybrid) "The factory also produces 4-cylinder and V6 engines and powertrain parts." that the Tacoma drivetrain must be produced in Huntsville in conjunction with the actual engine? Still a question for me.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Motor_Manufacturing_Kentucky

I kept looking for the drivetrain in that video, but all they show is the engine. There is also a PDF that shows the vaguest of details for the supply chain. The wiki entry for the Toyota Alabama plant does not have the level of detail that the Kentucky site does.

    https://www.toyota.com/content/dam/tusa/usa/operations/toyota-operations-map-fall-2023.pdf

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Toyota_factories
I found this interesting because there are at least two plants in Japan that produce drivetrain parts. So is that level of part manufacturing practiced in NA? The info on US plants does not show that level of detail in many cases.

Why are some of you white folks getting bent out of shape? As a matter of fact, the same ones that post black people in memes…no one ever said it was a white thing.

It takes pride to do a job successfully. “Some” Americans shouldn’t be in the job force. Case in point, when I started working for the U.S. Postal Service back in the 90’s, I was trying to get to PTF status. Yup, I got all the swings the letter carriers didn’t want to do. Fuck those days were incredibly fucking hard. But being a proud American, I NEVER complained and did my work with those hard workers from the early 40’s in mind constantly.

So here I am, 7:00pm and all alone in dark areas of Pasadena I didn’t know, let alone where the delivery slots were. I’ll never forget it. I knew Mr. Tyson had sent help. We had a very strong working relationship. I was his go to guy. Well, that’s when I caught that lazy worker off the corner of my eye. Trying to hide. And oh yeah, as soon as I was almost done, he appeared. I laughed it off and said he was waisting his time.

FFW. It was time to say goodbye and go back to the Uni to finish off my photography studies. Mr. Tyson wasn’t happy. He said he would put a rush on the PTF status(struggled for years), but I was prepared to go back and finish my studies. That golden handcuff job paid EXTREMELY well. It was tough to say goodbye. So when it came to say goodbye after my two weeks, Mr. Tyson took me up to his office and told me he was going to make it look like I was laid off so I could accept unemployment. I looked at him dumbfounded. “You are by far one of the hardest workers I have had the pleasure of working with, especially under my control.” He went on to tell me I earned it.

I’ll never forget those words and damn proud of it. Are you working to live? Or living to work?

ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE.

That's a good question. Our rear diffs are made in a Hino-branded plant in Thailand. Don't recall seeing a label on the front diff casing.

But worse in reliability. Those vacuum-operated hubs on Fords are stupid unreliable once the truck gets older.

I am curious how you know that...is there a label on the rear diff?
You can tell I am super curious about supply chain information.

^Yes there's a label on the diff casing. I noticed it while fixing my pinion seal dust shield after smashing it on a rock in 2020. Note this is for the 8.75" rear diff on OR models. I don't know where the smaller diff for SR5 models are made.

I thought that the mall was where you needed the 4WD? Same with a lift, big tires and light bars?

Bullet-resistant “glass” is actually plastic. Just throwing that out there.

The LC200 out in my drive was 80+k and needed aftermarket skids because metal oem ones are always a flimsy joke that can’t handle the weight of the vehicle on a rock.

Same story with every landcruiser and Tacoma I’ve ever have ever owned. I don’t care what they are made of, they are getting replaced.
