This thread was super helpful, just picked up a used cover with the hardware off a 2021. Hard trouble with the driver front getting the dble click. Just couldn't compress enough so I made a thin shim brckt to lower it just a bit and it's perfect now. I noticed the alignment of the catch as mentioned above by the OP is important, just a little slide forward or back may also help to achieve the dble click.
    Thanks for the helpful information.

Anyone know where to find those spacers? Or maybe the thickness?

I want a D221 (thinner one) for my driver side cab corner. I removed the thicker spacer but now the cable that opens the latch pops off every time you try to use it

Is my tonneau supposed to double click? I have a 2023 OEM tonneau. The owners manual says it's supposed to double click but I've looked at it and don't see how it can. The manual says it's also supposed to be able to sit flat against back window, but there's no way it can.

Thanks for posting this fix, it made a big difference for my tonneau on my 23. I always had issues with my back panel not latching properly and leaking, it seals much better now (not perfect) and double clicks and lays flatter after the fix. Thank you!

When I first had my truck in 2020 the tonneau cover would leak a few drops around the driver side rear. As it's gotten older now, the cover has settled in, and keeps everything inside the bed completely dry.

I was thrilled to find this post. Finally a solution to the leaking OEM Tacoma Tonneau cover. I removed the spacers on all the panels and cleaned the bed rails and rubber stripping along the tonneau. Got the double clicks and perfect alignment. Noticed an overall better fit to the cover. Then I did a 2 min gardenhose test to see if the leaks had slowed and to my disappointment, it seems to be worse now.

After all this research and trying a few fixes without any luck, I really think the issue is the cut bed rails. Water runs off the tonneau down to the cut bed rail and seeps through leaking down to the tie-down rails and then into the bed. Or maybe it's a manufacturing thing where the truck bed is slightly off-center causing water to leak to one side or the other. I've spent too much time on a new truck trying to fix this issue so the cover is going in the trash.

I have a vinyl soft cover so I'm going to install and do the same gardenhose test it to see if it's a bed rail problem or a tonneau issue. Will report back with pictures.

Removed the Toyota OEM Tonneau and installed my old vinyl tri-fold tonneau, (which never leaked on my 21' Tacoma) and did the same gardenhose test...

Bummer. Same result as the Toyota OEM Tonneau. A puddle with just two minutes of the gardenhose.

I'm feeling that the problem isn't the Toyota Tonneau cover, it's probably the cut bedrails that are allowing water to seep down into the tie-down rack and then drip into the bed. Since my truck is under warranty and this was a factory/dealer install, I'm going to contact my dealer and ask for new bed rails. Then I'll pass along the tonneau cover, (and the cut rails) to someone else if they want to deal with it.

I hope others have better luck with their bedrails than I've had.

    Pictures -
Cleaned and dried bed right after installing vinyl cover
Vinyl cover deployed and ready for test
    Gardenhose spray for 2 minutes
Look inside the truck bed after the test.

I know this post was in year 2021. I did removed all those plates. I just want to wait to test the next time it rains. The cover just is flushed. Hopefully no rain will get in. This thread is a keeper.

Worked for me. I was most pleased with the way it is more flat after the change.

On my old posts from my 2016 I never got the cover to stop leaking so I sold it and bought the Lomax cover from a TW seller and that worked great. On my new 23 Limited the factory installed cover all I had to do is fill the two front corners and it works great. I think it's a hit and miss with the factory install they just put it on and don't water test.
