    So what is the best luxury offraod vehicle? Lexus LX 470 was mentioned earlier. I always thought it would be a Jeep GC (if you consider that a luxury vehicle)

    They're all shit for off road. They're made for rapper bling now. Even the current model land cruiser is a disgrace to the name.

    Manufacturers figured out no one is going to spend that kind of money on something that's going to see real work. They're going to buy a used Tacoma and build it, or purchase a Jeep vehicle and an off-road trailer to carry spare parts in.

    Suit yourself. Both my Wife and my Father in-Law has Grand Cherokees. And he has the Diesel with the 3.0L. It's fucking nice.

    385ft/lbs out of a 3.0L? Yes please!

    Yes they are, along with an inflatable suspension.

    I have massive durability concerns, but at the price point they're positioning this vehicle, it's not going to see offroad use like its forebears did anyway. It's a mall crawler now.

    i honestly really like the way it looks, but range rovers are known to be the most unreliable make. but its your call and your money do what you feel is right but to be honest i wouldnt get one unless i know i had to the money to fix when there was a problem

    It's enormous. Park it next to a 3rd gen and take a look.

    American vehicle sizes have gotten WAY far out of control. As far as it's offroad ability, I wouldn't know.


    Perhaps it does. That, however, wasn't part of our discussion at all, which was focused on current model Lexus and Land Cruiser SUVs, which are shit for offroad use.

    The 2005-2008 with the diesels don't have that auto height crap. And I believe those years were still Straight Axle front and rear. I know my Wife's 2001 is. Makes jacking it up a real breeze when I have to do the oil changes.

    The Grand Cherokees have always scored really well on their durability for as long as I can remember. They've always stood out from the rest of the Jeep crowd because of that. Second you're complaining about the size of the 4Runners? All the Grand Cherokees have remained the same size. When my father inlaw came by he parked right next to my wife's 2001 and front to back, bottom to top, side to side, they're almost identical.

    And quite frankly full time 4WD is awesome. Jeep does have some of the best 4WD systems second only to Benz, but then you're paying $80-$100Gs for a G-Wagon.

    Not related to the conversation in any way. I have no qualms with JGC size.

    Agreed again. Jeep's 4wd systems don't worry me, they're long proven. This new all independent air suspension gives me pause. A LOT of new shit to break there.

    I liked the old GCs for the exact reason you mentioned - proven axles at both ends.

    Yeah it is ya dork. You're talking about new vehicles becoming huge and massive. I said that the Grand Cherokee is one of the few that has remained the same size.

    Kinda important if vehicle size is an issue for the OPs GF.
    That's new to the 2011's. 2010 and prior don't have that tech in them.
