I'm not a fan either, I've had a couple different barrels. I don't think either was anything to write home about.

I have had Blanton's (still have 3 bottles left on thr shelf). I liked Eagle Rare and, especially, Buffalo Trace.
Had a tasting of Richland rums at their distillary. I like them better than Blanton's. They taste like bourbons, not a typical Carribbean rum. Not sweet, made from unrefined cane sugar syrup.
Ended picking up 5 different rums. All are single barrels.
Regular rum 5-10 years; cask 119 proof strength; Terrapin imperial milk stout cask exchange, and chateau Elan port cask exchange rums. All are 5 to 10 years single barrels.

Tried their XO rum. It was Excellent too. 10+ year old casks.
Decided not to get it, but stepped up to their 25 year old rum, aged in single malt scotch barrels. Not in stores yet.

    Did some acquiring today.

The MM Store Pick is a belated birthday gift. Same buddy picked up the GB Cowboy Bourbon for me a while back.

OF 1924 abd Woodford '23 Batch Proof were at my local ABC today.

Broadslab is a craft distillery about 2hr from me. They are the only farm to bottle distillery in NC - they grow their own grain and do all distillation, aging, and bottling on site. Their stuff is young, 2-3 years, but they use an aging acceleration process they call "flue curing" where their barrels spend 3 days in a tobacco aging barn being heated to a 165 degree internal temp.

Obviously I enjoyed the tasting. Unique flavor for sure. I brought a bunch home.

This barrel is so delicious, probably the best RR Private Barrel I've had. IMG_0717.jpg

I enjoy certain rum, but most Caribbean Rum is way too sweet. For me aged Jamaican Rum suits my palate. This is my favorite sipper. IMG_0718.jpg

Caribbean rums are made from refined sugar surap and molasses. If you see Richland, try it. It is dry.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. This is not my favorite local store, but it's in the top 3 or 4. It's probably the biggest store in town. In one aspect I'm glad because I never built up enough points on there loyalty program to get any allocated bottles from them. In another aspect I hate having to buy something I may not need or want to get something else that I do. :pout:

Hey everyone, we are doing our allocation release a little different starting today! You will now have the opportunity to buy a bottle at a reduced price after either spending $50+ or buying a store pick! It will be 1 bottle per customer per each $50 spent or for each store pick purchased. No doubles of allocation bottles though.
    Example:
spend $50 get 1 allocation bottle
spend $100 get 2 allocation bottles
Buy 1 store pick get 1 allocation bottle
Buy 2 store pick get 2 allocation bottles

    Allocation items/pricing:
    Blanton’s $69.99
    Weller Special Reserve $39.99
    Eagle Rare $49.99
    EH Taylor Small Batch $69.99
    Heaven’s Door Exploration $89.99
    Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection $449.99
    Elijah Craig Barrel Proof $79.99
    Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel $59.99
    Midwinter Night’s Dram $199.99
    Nelson’s Honey Barrel $199.99
    Jack Daniel’s 10yr $99.99
Old Forester Barrel Proof Rye $99.99
    Maker’s Mark Limited 2023 $79.99
    1792 12yr $69.99

It would go for it. Even if the store pick is garbage , it can always be used for mixers

I’d be ok with this if I could get the EHT or OF. The others…not necessarily. I’ve had some really good store picks that I’ve picked up from a few places.

I done the buy one, get one deal at another store for an EHT which was very good, but the store pick I got was garbage. I'm don't usually do mixed drinks, so I'm still waiting for someone to come visit that I can pawn it off on.

There are a few that would be worth getting, and it isn't that hard to spend $50 on something. So I might go by there later this week to see what they still have. I just find the local liquor scene to be overly difficult. I've had better luck bourbon hunting on the road.

Not horrible, but they are all still above MSRP. I find that store is typically a few dollars over MSRP on most everything on their shelves. A couple months ago they had a Weller 12yr behind the counter, they wanted $199 for it. Way more than I'm willing to pay.

Yeah I'd be okay doing it if all of their prices were good. Some of them are crazy, $200 for MWND? EC Toasted is on that list when it's literally everywhere now?

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
So my day took an interesting turn.

I have kind of a complicated living/work situation and I turned 50 on Sunday. I decided my gift to myself would be to take a PTO day yesterday and to turn in my resignation today effective June 30th (I'm a school admin.). I got to work today to an office full of balloons, cake, singing, and and this...20240312_170456.jpg
Someone heard me tell the story about how the local liquor store was holding a bottle for someone and it is the only one I could confirm existed in Minnesota. A teacher went and convinced the manager to give it up for my birthday gift. Holy crap! I could not believe it when I saw it. I have stopped at every liquor store from north to south and asked. It doesn't exist here.

Guess I'll be turning that resignation in tomorrow :notsure: (now I feel guilty).
