    Well, how dare they?
What could Toyota be thinking to mislead such high standing member of society such as yourself, do they know who you are?
I dare say you let them know, and in writing!
I'd bet the farm they'll think twice about those brochures from now on lest their company loses all it's customers and face bankruptcy.
    How preposterous.
Best of luck to you dear sir in your endeavors for justice.
    Regards.

Toyota hasn't seen an uptick in transmission failure rates since deleting the external cooler. And the population of drivers who tow have not decreased either.

So, I'm taking a stab at guessing that it isn't a huge issue whether it's there or not.

Toyota stated their safe atf temp is 250 and the auxiliary cooler wasn’t needed with that transmission design. But I guess some people believe that they know more than Toyota’s engineers or Toyota has some kind of scam in place where years from now they make a bundle on replacement transmissions.

TC temp you referring to is ATF 2 temp Toyota's valve body temp sensor.
If you had it running hotter, it was not a fluid level issue in 3rd gen tacoma.
You really need to get familiar how tacoma cooling system works with variable lift thermostat and operation of AT transmission.

I’ve personally never seen higher than 190 degrees or so in my 23. Not towing just heart of the southern summer heat / traffic. Generally it stays in the 170 - 180’s

@ faawrenchbndr - I have the OBD Fusion app on my phone
I monitor trans temps when towing using a OBD Link MX+

Do you have links and cost for this setup and is it better than just buying the Scangauge II??

Well, this is my philosophy. I don’t like clutter. I didn’t want the ScanGage to clutter the dash or hang down anywhere.

I usually ONLY use the Fusion app when I’m towing. It’s really the only time I feel the need to monitor trans temps and get a more detailed readout of coolant temp.

The ScanGage would be a gauge that would be constantly in place & a cord to be routed. My phone is in a holder on the dash. I don’t use my phone while driving. It only makes sense to use it as the display screen.

The OBD Fusion app is cheap. $10 for the app plus $10 for the Enhanced diagnostics in-app purchase. The enhanced diagnostics are desired because it has the Toyota trans temp PIDS and much more.

That chart is if you keep the ATF fluid at that temp for 1 hour straight. Not the occasional ups and downs.

These hit all my points too.
It doesn't hurt the phone route is much cheaper too, since you are already using what you paid for,,, the phone.

Per SM, 176°F is normal condition.
However, there is no a definite answer for a high limit. There is 230°F value with a resistance range 0.2-0.28 k ohms
Toyota uses resistance to measure the temperature. If the sensor displays the temp as 300°F, ecu considers it as a shorted circuit.
I would try to stay below 230. Who is tuned and tow, should pay a close attention to A/T oil temp No.2 sensor. This one is related to the torque converter management.

TFL asked toyota and they responded below 250 isn’t an issue.

Its about right. The exact value is 246 when the dash display puts out a warning message

You should consider adding an auxiliary external transmission cooler to your setup for a trailer that size. They are not that expensive and are very simple to install. They are discussed at length in here in many threads if you want info on sizes, good brands, etc.

There's a big difference between at temp sensor 1 and 2. The size of the external cooler won't help with sensor 2 temp climbing high

I can't speak to the 3rd gen trucks, however the trailer towing package was an option on the 2nd gen trucks: It was not standard equipment on any 2nd generation truck AFIK. My 2014 has this factory option. The aux transmission cooler, and aux engine oil cooler were part of the optional towing package, (V6 models only) as was the Class IV hitch, heavy duty alternator and battery, electronic sway control and trailer wiring with 7-harness pin connector and converter. A Class III trailer hitch was also a separate option on the 2nd gen for a time, so a truck can have a hitch with no towing pkg equipment items.

    Hope this helps!

So the sensor itself doesn't not measure the temp of the converter. It is installed in the valve body. Usually, its temp goes up when the torque converter is in fluid coupling state (by alot) or slipping mode (small increments). Some sources state that it is monitoring a cooling line inside.

Does obd fusion charge you per month or is it a 1 time fee for the service and dongle I assume you can use other brand dongles as well? That is convenient having a CarPlay app takes the place of a scan gauge to a certain degree
