I would go to the nearest Toyota dealer and buy a new thermostat. If you feel the plugs might be bad or don't know when they were last changed get new ones while your at the dealer. Those parts are relatively cheap at the dealer ( you need copper plugs not the iridium ones) . I believe the change interval for plugs on the 4.0 L is 50,000 Km. Parts like those and air and oil filters I always buy at the dealer for peace of mind.

Just because the reservoir and radiator are full that doesn't mean you don't have an air pocket. These engine are prone to holding an air pocket in the engine block....

Cleaned the MAF sensor rigorously. Changed the PCV same time even though my old was still shaking super good.

How do I get rid of air pockets? Pinch some hoes? Will that fix the fuel consumption?

Truck was running awesome on the iridiums I have in there. I've ran them for way less 30,000. I did buy the OEM Copper ones at the dealer not long ago. They're just sitting in the box. Not going to change them just yet unless you guys think it'll make a difference. Those iridiums were top of the line and have never caused issues. Things only changed once I changed the thermostat.

I may just have to buy one from the dealership.

Cannot install an OEM style, on these engines, backwards.

Of course, a motivated enough person can usually do the impossible.

The two thermostats I have installed on my taco, an Aisin and a Motorad, came with the thermostat attached to the housing, so it installs only one way with zero chance of installing it backwards. Since it appears the old housing was leaking, maybe you can swap out the thermostats in the housings. Just make sure the jiggle thingy is oriented the same way if it has one.

Park your truck so the front is uphill or pull it up on some stands. Remove the radiator cap (while the motor is cool) and install a spill proof funnel or get a funnel that sits tightly in the radiator fill port. Turn the truck on and get the vehicle to operating temperatures that way the thermostat opens up. You'll want to wear gloves and you'll squeeze the large upper radiator hose that's close to your radiator cap. Squeeze slowly and release. If you are doing it correctly, coolant will rise up into the funnel and return to the radiator as you squeeze the hose. Keep squeezing and releasing slowly for a few minutes as the bubbles work their way to the highest place which should be the funnel. Add coolant as necessary when the fluid level goes down. I'll keep looking for a photo to amend to this post to show you what hose to squeeze.

Edit: See this post for a picture of the hose I am speaking of. The hose is the one that is directly behind the radiator cap.

Where are you located? Is that on a flat highway with a 100km/h tailwind? lol Trying to figure out how you can get 600km out of a tank of gas. When I'm just below the 1/4 tank mark, I'm usually around 380-400km in the city.

There's no way unless he's driving deep into the gas light. The best I EVER got was filling up an already warm truck, then merging onto the freeway and driving 5 hours on a flat straight road at 90km/h.

Around 500KM before the gas light went off
