at their level it's more then a hobby, not saying they are making a living off it but those clicks, watch time and merch sold through the channel starts to add up when you have a catalog of 900 videos like they do. There's some articles about the revenue generated by popular YT channels and it was surprising also the number of working age content creators that ditched their jobs and now live off YT revenue. Don't get me wrong, it's work and cultivating a viewership isn't easy, I'm by no means insinuating they're click bait artists. If you look at the frequency they release new videos they're putting in some sweat and expense. At their level I'd expect the channel to pay for their content costs.

This is an interesting video of a 2020 losing 4x4 on the front due to the ADD actuator.

(Toyota told him this failure was related to a re-gear mod and a breather hose that was not installed correctly allowing moisture and debris into the ADD section... ).

Not to say this is the issue with any 2024, but interesting to see the parts in place and disassembly.

There are a million variables, but I'm glad they didn't break theirs.

Looks like he does fairly serious off-roading... and he has stock composite skid plates?

To some here it's a faulty design, bad parts, cheap parts, parts that are not suitable for the motor (thats the best one),plastic parts, shouldn't be using an ADD at all, under engineered, and of course where it's assembled. But these guys just could have got lucky?

Can anyone tell me the trail? Can't wait to do it with my future one. Just to laugh in certain faces or weep inconsolably at my shattered front diff pieces. I have a hunch I might be number 300+ who went up there with their '24 Taco dunkin' on TFL.

I had manual locking hubs with a manual transfer case on my '87 Ford Bronco. You could lock the hubs ahead of time if you expected/anticipated bad conditions to occur during the trip. Doing this would result in the front axles turning in synch with the wheels and allow you to shift into out of 4H "on the fly" as needed when/as conditions changed. No requirement to pull over and stop unless you wanted to select 4L. The owners manual manual also warned of possible gear clash and transfer case damage if a shift was attempted from 2H to 4H with the manual hubs in the "free" position. I never made that mistake thankfully Setting them to locked was mandatory before any shift was attempted. Likewise, any shift into or out of 4L required the vehicle to be stopped and the transmission in Neutral.

This is actually a tactic to grow a small Youtube channel.... Make videos about already successful channels.

I posted this in the pics and videos thread earlier. Probably the first 4th gen Taco to be wheeled somewhat seriously in the hands of customers. SR5 model so it lacks the OR's beefier axles. 35" Nittos fit with very minimal work once the correct offset wheels were used:

There are when I googled it, and they did say the Diff and ADD were carry overs from the 3rd Gen in the video. What's different is how the MTS is dealing with the higher torque and hitting full torque @ 1700rpm. It takes quite a bind to snap that fork. Of course, it could've been a defective fork as well. I'm betting on MTS.

do you guys even know what the fork does? there is no force on it. it slides the collar engaging the front diff into 4wd. once 4wd is engaged the fork+collar is not going anywhere. the collar in theory could break but i doubt it. has anyone actually shattered one?

someone correct me if im wrong.

now if we are talking about the whole ADD system. the intermediate shaft is technically part of the ADD system so i still believe the problem is after the ADD actuator.

They seem like solid dudes. I’ve been a subscriber for about a decade. I’ve emailed with them a couple times over the years regarding advice and they’ve been very helpful.

So I’m with you. Obviously this works in their favor, but I believe they are real enthusiasts who’ve simply found a way to turn that into a career.

I hope you all are prepared for the inevitable anti-climatic conclusion to this nothingburger. The real answer and cause will never possibly satisfy the hype.
