Same, I believe it to be easier and user friendly. Downloading maps is easy and adding way points on the fly to mark obstacles and POIs along the route. I have both Hunt and Offroad for OnX

Maybe I'm doing something wrong on the DL of the maps, but I always end up with a hodge podge of maps trying to cover the area I want to save vs. just dragging a trapezoid over 2.7 million acres (lol)

Whoa whoa, alcohol and greasy shafts getting installed in eagerly awaiting holes? These aren't the Mod days I remember!:rofl::rofl:

In all seriousness though we really do need to set one up one of these days. I have my cam tab reinforcements to add to the pile... I can't really host but hell I'd be down to bring a shitload of greasy takeout and booze! :)

    I can't help it. :D

For the more experienced wheeler folks, I've been half-assing my recovery kit for a while and decided to get serious before this Moab trip. Trying to figure out what I'm still missing.
    20240311_191943.jpg
Bags have a 30ft bubba rope and soft shackles, Morrflate tire hose, and compressor.
Hi Lift jack not pictured, also my standard bug out duffel that has:
    -First aid kit
    -Gloves
    -Emergency lights
    -Jumper pack
    -Oil just in case
    -towels for mud
    -Radio

I know I need a good recovery strap, anything else I'm obviously missing?

And silly question but... what are those tiny orange straps from the Maxtrax for?:anonymous:

Traction boards bury themselves in sand. Straps help you locate the boards.

We sell a great recovery strap for dirt cheap at Bass Pro, I have one, and I've given them as presents to all my wheeling buddies. It has held up to many, many tugs of my friend's 2wd ranger out of shit. I can grab one for 50% off next time I work if you're interested.

If you find yourself up in Gilbert I think I still have have a lightly used ARB strap you can have... Bought a rope like 3 years ago and it's just been sitting in a box.

What kind of recovery strap would you need, since you have the bubba? A shorter static strap?

Tire plug kit. It’s saved my ass a few times when I tore a sidewall.

I used to carry wheel chocks, really gave me peace of mind when changing a spare with a hi lift.

A Colby valve is an emergency valve stem replacement. Cheap and small, worth keeping around.

Make sure you have a proper front recovery point too, in case you need a tug.

If anything else comes to mind, I’ll share.

Get a "lift-mate" wheel lifter for your handyman jack. Hooks into the wheel to lift it - then you need an axle or frame support after you're up. I've got a chunk of pool noodle to protect whatever the jack wants to lean on. If you are not someone who has used a handyman that often - practice using it before its an emergency.

Also have a roll of several cut-off old jean legs to slide on your ropes or straps for abrasion shields.

At the time I paid for my subscription ($50/yr) three or four years back, Gaia was more for off road adventuring and On-X was for hunters. But On-X has stepped up and kind of De-Nitched themselves. May be On-X is better at this point. I'll stick with Gaia (for now) because I like the layers (particularly mines and minerals) and because I have converted all of the 2 Meter and 70Centimeter Amateur Radio Repeaters in AZ to a KML overlay that lets me see what repeaters I'm near if I need help. It's due for updating but it's a nice feature to have.

I can see how a large area is nice to download.. I've used Onx for years and when I'm done with the downloaded map or "learn" the area I simply delete the map so the hog pog of square don't exist on my set-up. One can download a larger size with Onx, but the quality or zoom is not as good. It's worked for me on smaller locations and POI and can't complain.
I don't think your doing it wrong, but you dont need to over lap the squares vs boarder to boarder them. You have a lot of the same areas overlapped which adds a little confusion and downloaded space.

I meant a smaller recovery strap for having more options as far as attaching to a vehicle.
I won't have it for Moab but there's a place in 'straya that makes super slick front recovery points for the 4Runner, they actually cover the stock tie down points so noone is tempted.;)

Just ordered some colby valves and a tire repair kit. Good catch.

Meh I am in no rush at the moment. I havent even painted it. I pulled it into the garage and havent touched it since I parked it. Been working on all the other stuff. Finally got my garage door fixed and busy with other house chores. I need to clean the garage next and do a oil change on the tundra.
