Running boards

Hello
This past winter in Pa what snow we got. Snow slush stuck and accumulated along the rocker panels. I’m looking at running boards to prevent that but that may compound the issue. Looked at Extreme Terrain ones. I don’t like the tube type with integrated steps. I really need assistance to get in and. Just looking to protect the rockers. Then there’s the rust factors. Brackets and such.

Sliders come in dimple fill plate, or non. Both have holes.

 

Corrosion prevention, like Cosmoline or WoolWax is what you need. Yes it has been my belief that boards simply act as a collector for slush. In your case it seems as if they are needed.

 

Yeah. My OEM mud guards aren’t cutting it. Slush builds up on rockers about two thirds back middle second door.

 

it seems as if the accessibility enhancement of the running boards is going to be more desirable for you than the corrosion preventative. The corrosion prevention is something you can certainly take care of. The ice and slush collection on the running boards is something you will not be able to prevent.

 

get the OEM Aluminum boards, they retail for $900 ish ad are all over FB marketplace for $500 or less

 

Slush and ice (and all the included chemicals) will still build up on the middle and rear running board mounts. I have more rust than I'd prefer in the area where the rear mounts are attached.

 

Those look exactly like the oem ones I installed on my truck.
Absolutely no rust between mount and body after 6 Pa winters.
I sprayed woolwax on mount and body before install.
Not so great for getting in and out, but great rocker protection and easy to stand on and wash the roof.

 

Those look like the Toyota oem running boards from the 2nd gen Tacoma. They also work on the 3rd Gen. Had a set on mine. Aluminum subframe with a poly plastic top. No rusting.

 

All these running boards are good for is getting the back of your pants dirty every time you get out.

 

And there’s that also. lol

 

Likely would be the biggest impact to your daily life!

 

the one on your pic is the best to protect the sides of the truck, they are the 2nd gen oem ones. made of alum and plastic coating.....you might want mud flaps too

 

I also put 2nd gen OEM running boards on mine, perfect fit and less expensive. Not a single big of rust after 4 years tooling around on the beaches of Galveston.

application says these won’t fit Gen 3.

 

I recently put a set on my 3rd Gen DCSB and they bolt right up.

If you search the part number (PT21235055), you can find them from Toyota dealers for less than Amazon.

These fit a gen 3 double cab?

 

Try to test before you buy, if possible. Used car lots will have all sorts of random examples.

A good step for some can be useless or annoying to others, dependent on your height, leg/torso ratio. Otherwise, rock sliders are always a good choice unless you absolutely need that step-up.
