best gas mileage per gallon/tank

so any tips for getting good mileage i have a 4 banger and wonder on how to get better mileage. what speed is the best to drive at for good mileage??? any other tips??? i already looked at the sticky ones

 

my best was 22mpg (22mpg last couple of tanks), went 406 miles on my last tank.

 

what you mean no hard starts???

 

easy starts. I get 22+ in the summertime v-6 auto stock.

 

530 miles on one tank...30.9 MPG's.

 

That is impresive. I do not think I will get that high no matter how soft I drive.

If you have a 21 gal tank you could have gone over 600 miles if you ran down to fumes!

 

I'm tired of responding to these threads. What is it ,4 a year every year since 2008 for me? Well, anyway , stew over these in random order, some not so serious too.

55mph is better than 75
2wd is better than 4wd
lighter tires / ASR instead of MT/ hell , go hiway tread , better yet
investigate what is the lightest rim you can find
get synthetics
higher psi in the tires
pull the tailgate(for weight not for aerodynamics) , spare tire and anything you can to save weight. if you break 100lb see if it gets you 1/4 mpg or better/
4 smooth flat discs over the wheels for more aerodynamics(+rep for photos if you actually do it)
supersized carbon fiber faux skid plate going to the rear. I suspect the lesser turbulence is good for 1 mpg
never fill up, just go from 1/2 to 1/4 tank... save 70ish lb
no mods using metal, they just add weight
no streets with stop signs or red lights
no passengers ever , never, not even a cat, they cost you around 1/50 mpg i hear
pull of the badging ,they snag air , especially the plasitc ones
drop 1-2 axle ratios..... from say 3.33 to a 3.08 for example.
try to never use the breaks...within the law though, coast to a light as u can
try to keep it at 2000 rpm or less if you can
use the lowest recomended viscosity oil on your model/year engine
remove the useless air conditioner, it just robs power, who need it in the rain anyway

 

I could have gone over 600 with 2 gal's left in the tank.

Hey, when my only 4 wheel vehicle (I have motorcycles) was a Honda s-2000 my dog would only ride with my wife in her suby. Now that I have my Tacoma all I have to do is say 'truck' and he runs outside and jumps in. He will no longer ride with my wife in the suby. I tell my wife I bought the truck for the dog, not me.

Sorry to hijack, it is just that we all get tired of the lousy mileage we get, actually I drive a truck and I don't care. Still have the motorcycles and the S-2000 though if prices go over $4 per gallon.

If you're not gonna take passengers, you might as well get rid of that useless passenger seat and airbag. Glovebox too. All it does is give you a place to carry around crap you don't need anyway.

Ugh and that passenger side mirror, all that weight and drag.

And what about the rest of your fluids? Keep that radiator, washer, brake, transmission, oil etc as low as possible. And always take a piss before driving anywhere.

If you have a 4x4, take off that rear drive shaft and leave it in 4 all the time. The rear drive shaft is heavier than the front cause its longer. while you're at it, remove all the gearing in the rear diff and take off the brake drums and shoes, they don't do much anyway.

if you've got a manual, install a worn out clutch disc, it will weigh less than a new one. And remove the shift knob, you should already know the order of the gears so you don't need that diagram anymore. Also install worn out brake pads, they'll weigh less.

I found that highway speed made all the difference in my mileage. I took some long road trips and found that dropping from about 75 on highways to 63 brought my mileage up from 21 to 25 on my stock 2010 4x4 4cyl access cab.

 

yup , 25-26mpg is what I get at 65mph(gps).
