I'm not trying to be pedantic here, but you do have your stock tire jack correct? The same rod with the hook that you use to operate your jack is the same rod with hook to lower your spare. It should be located under the rear seat or in the back of the cab inside your truck and you access the little hole from above your license plate just below the tailgate. Sometimes the little details skip in my brain too, just thought I'd point that out to see if it helps.

As I have previously stated, back in 2017 I lowered the tire and lubed the part with the same rod.

I'm trying to post a pic from my phone but can't do it. I have a clear image, it's a bolt head, I'm going to clean it out and put a socket on it.

The socket idea didn't work, so I cut the center holder out with a Sawzall. It sawed easier than I thought it would. I'm off to the hardware store to price a cut off tool for the winch. Can't cut close enough with the Sawzall.

This is the hole that I felt ,it is an insert of an anti theft device, it fell off while I was beating on the winch. There is a roll pin on the back side that inserts in the slot that the hook slides into. A few years ago during tire rotation I had the anti theft lug nuts replaced and forgot that I needed that device to lower the spare, so I though it away. This debacle could have avoided!

Thanks for the update, glad you got it worked out!

I had no idea a spare tire lock even existed until grizquad's post (#15) on this thread...

A better deterrent is a security pad-lock locked into the winch chain that holds up the tire. This obviously doesn't work if you have the cable winch which is trash anyway.
