Are these the shocks that have the bottom out snubber on the shock itself instead of on the truck?

Honestly I don't know. I'm taking mine out tomorrow to install a leveling kit, so I'll take a good look at them while I have them out.

That video sucks. Would be nice to see what was actually replaced? And if the new part is re-enforced etc.

I expect a full edited video from them soon, my guess is they just wanted to get the word out that they have it back

All the 4th gen front shocks are that way. Elastomer bumpstop is on the shock shaft, like most MacPherson strut vehicles.

I think if you delete the sway bar, there's room to weld in a bracket for hydraulic bumps.

That TFL video is so bad I'm beginning to wonder if they've partnered with RobMotive...

Right. If they didn’t release anything until they had a complete analysis, they’d be blasted on all possible forums. When they release tid bits as they have them, they get blasted anyway.

    I doubt TFL knows anything.

On 2nd/3rd gens, if you forget to install the washer that rides on the shock shaft shoulder when assembling the coilover, this happens. Buddy with a 4Runner had it happen on the trail with a Dobinson. The washer got wallowed out and eventually the shaft punched through. Maybe a similar failure happened here.

The youtubers are giving the impression that the strut came apart on the trail without them causing it. I don't know if the Toyota assembly line fudged something op or not, but I doubt Bilstein is shipping faulty products.

^That's probably true. Buddy's Dobinson was also assembled correctly. The low-quality part failed with time. Bilstein can have mfg defects just like Toyota can have mfg defects. Something like a washer is probably outsourced 2 sub-tiers down to the lowest bidder. Probability of defect is increased if they switched materials from the norm, like from steel to aluminum.

Toyota may have had 400+ prototypes, but those were all hand-built. Plenty of room for mass production bugs to occur.

Going back to the first gen to show those losers with the later trucks how it’s really done. Beautiful addition to the thread
